WashU Acceptance

I am hopefully going to apply as an EA to WashU. My current stats: 3.6uw gpa and 34 nonsuperscore ACT comp. I was considering retaking the ACT to possible score higher/superscore a 36. Would this help me in any way?
Do you think I should try to take the ACT again to score higher, especially considering my subpar GPA?

Could it hurt to take the ACT again? Probably not. I don’t know that it is critical per say, but 34 is that high end of our middle 50% ACT score range, and I rather doubt I need to cite you the acceptance rates to point out how competitive admissions are. Really, if I were you, I’d work on solidifying the rest of my application first, and seriously demonstrating interest. Applying ED would do that. Trying to apply EA would not, since we don’t offer that as far as I (and our admissions website) is aware.

I’d say work on the GPA as best you can now. Visit the school, attend a local info session. Get an interview. Stay in touch with the interviewer. (And apply ED). Have you taken the SAT?

There is no EA at WashU at this time.

First of all, there is no early action program at Wash U, only early decision, which means once you apply, you are committed to go if you get in.

Second, I wouldn’t go any higher than a 34 ACT. It may sound weird, but Wash U does tend to waitlist “overqualified” candidates. People, argue with me all you want, but I have definitely observed this both on CC and in my school. A 3.6 UW and a 34 ACT are great numbers for Wash U in particular; if you don’t apply for aid (as they are need-aware), you have a great chance. Just be sure to show interest (taken care of if you apply ED), and make sure to interview.

Btw: I had a 3.6 WEIGHTED gpa, and I got in.

Your test score looks like it is in the range for WashU. I do think that if anything you should work on your GPA. It’s very difficult to judge an applicant just on GPA and ACT score because the picture is incomplete. Are the courses you are taking the most challenging that are offered in your high school? What are your extracurricular activities? I do think that applying early will give you an edge for acceptance.

ED, not EA, that’s what I meant to say :stuck_out_tongue: . Ok, well I’ve been taking all honors/AP in core subjects, my GPA dropped sophomore year and this year (junior) from 3 unfortunate C’s, 2 in foreign language and the other in an AP US history class. ECs are nothing special. Varsity athlete cross country/track since freshman year, member of NHS, founder of strategy game club, member of school volunteer group, a community outreach program. I’ve already been on one visit to WashU, planning on taking another. Planning on a good interview, and hoping to write a superb essay. And, no, I have not taken the SAT and most likely I will not ever take it.

So Wash U really takes the highest section of each ACT for the admission process?
