Washu vs. Cornell/Brown/Columbia

And in the revealed preference rankings study from 2003, Brown won over Columbia by an 80-20 landslide.

Look at the changes in rankings in both schools over the past few years. Something tells me those numbers are an effect, not a cause.

I heard Brown was talking smack about Columbia's momma.

"Get over yourself. Of students accepted to both Brown and Columbia, 56% choose Brown and 44% choose Columbia. Maybe they don't read US News?

The New York Times > Week in Review > Image > Collegiate Matchups: Predicting Student Choices"

This data is old. Brown is a good school, but Columbia is just slightly better in the eyes of the high school students. This is simply because it's been in the top 10 USNEWS ranking where as Brown's ranking has always been at the bottom among the ivy league schools for years. AND YES, I know USNEWS isnt really accurate.

"Wash U is tied with Columbia in the USNews rankings"

8) Columbia
12) Wash U
14) Cornell
17) Brown
Let me add one to that list:
6) Penn
8) Columbia
12) Wash U
14) Cornell
17) Brown

Now, let's see here. Penn has great departments across the board, urban location, AND cohesive social life. That is something that Columbia cannot lay its hands on. You will ultimately be much happier socially at Penn.

There will inevitably be the Columbian nay-sayers who attribute Penn's rank to Wharton. This is patent nonsense. Wharton is about 1/5 of the school, has only a 10-point higher SAT average, and the acceptance rate Penn posts is the CAS acceptance rate (this is proven data, which I have posted in another thread).

At least consider Penn; I guarantee that you won't regret it.

^way to butcher a thread meurte, the OP isn't talking about penn, you could have just pm'ed him/her instead of this rant.

Penn is ranked higher partly because of wharton and partly because the school caters to usnews (taking in high sat score, manipulating class size to be just under 20 and just under 50) which i wish columbia did a little more than we do.

except it's in philly, you'll be lucky to make it out alive.

perhaps the acceptance rate published coincides with the CAS acceptance rate (wharton is lower and seas is higher so they even out) but no school will publish a single school acceptance rate as an overall rate that would just be silly and lies.

I always love when the Penn maniacs invade our board, and post off-topic rants in threads.

To my knowledge no Columbia posters do this to any other school, Penn included.

I do miss JohnnyK though.

Actually, I think I'm generally the only Penn maniac that goes to other forums. All the others stay put. They only show up after I've burnt bridges and upset everyone.

Oh trust me, my Philadelphian friend, there have been others. There have been others.

Penn would be OK if they hired a new football coach. When is Joe Paterno going to retire anyway? [smile]

Don't flatter yourself, Denzera. The Columbians on this forum are hardly tame; they've been known to cross borders into other forums as well.

Meanwhile, I've only seen myself as any example of Penn-Pillaging. And I've been trolling around for a long, long time.

muerteapablo, you flame on Columbia because you couldn't get in and had to settle for Penn. That's a fact. I make fun of Columbia because the students there look like sea lions (no, not the cute ones you see at Sea World).

OP, here's kinda how the order goes:

Wharton

...

Columbia

Penn Cas

Cornell

Brown
N/A. WashU

Wharton is just a small part of UPenn. If you wanna compare it that way...then you should also include Columbia's teachers college and WashU medical school. -_-

^ wharton is more than 20% of the school. over 500 kids.

How the hell did this thread get hijacked?

Who give's a damn about UPenn? If you want to get a job anywhere outside of NYC, LA, or SFO you'll have to explain the difference between Penn State and U Penn.

Columbia is the name for about a million other colleges, companies, and other institutions. not a distinctive name either.

But they are more or less riding on the NYC Columbia. That's like a student going to Michigan Institute of Technology and saying they attend MIT. That's doesn't hurt the actual students going to MIT.

I'm not going to harp on UPenn, but when someone makes this post:

Penn Cas
I'm bound to throw reality at them.

If anybody slams Brown again, I will GET WILD!

And Joe Pat coaches Penn State not Penn. Do people have hamsters in their brains?

Penn is in the thick of a Philadelphia turf, gun, gang war. Urban my sole!

Do you know how many colleges and universities there are in the US? Brown ranking in at #341 is not bad at all. Unfortunately, there can only be one numero uno...
