WashU Waitlist Class of 2026

anyone know like how many waitlist spots are available to us peeps for washU?

impossible for us to know.

No way to know how many students will come off the WL. However, based upon a rough estimate of the RD yield required to get to their stated enrollment target of about 1810, the RD yield will need to be appreciably higher than it has ever been. If it is the same as last year’s RD yield, they’ll be about 150 students shy of the enrollment target.

Admissions also stated that they expected roughly 1000 applicants to accept WL spots.
If those estimates are reasonable, then >15% of WLers would be offered admission (because some people offered a spot on the WL won’t accept). So it’s definitely more promising than a standard year.

That said, maybe the yield does improve a bit and they’re only 75 enrollees short. And maybe 1500 accepted a WL spot this year. Or maybe they decide not to hit their target of 1810 after all.

The only thing that can be inferred from the admissions data released to date is that this looks like a better than average year for WL movement at the school.

Someone else at my school got off the WashU waitlist.

When did they get the email? My daughter is on the WL. Her dream school.

I believe one or two days ago. I’m not very close friends with that person, but they seem to be fairly set on their current college as well, so I’m not sure if they will ultimately deposit at WashU.

I was RD

Our son was admitted off the waitlist yesterday. He applied ED2 to Art & Sci in Biology. He is also a legacy. They sent him a text to ask if was still interested and will follow up with an email with more details. Wash U was his first choice, so he is very excited!!

Congratulations. We are still hoping for our daughter. She is a legacy as well.

Good luck to her! We know how it feels to want to continue the legacy in your family! It’s a special school!

Will washu keep taking people off the waitlist??

I’m guessing when they’re done, they’ll email us saying that they have admitted everyone they could as of now.

  • Did WashU request fin aid docs from anyone else a couple of days ago?

  • Also, why isn’t WUSTL sending some email to update about the status/activity of waitlists and stuff?

  • Do the WL offers come until some specified time frame each year (like till mid-May) or do they just like to keep everyone in the dark?

  • I heard some people getting off for CAS, Olin, Music, etc. but none for McKelvey Engineering & computer science. Any thoughts about it

  • I’m not surprised the school has not sent an email update. We aren’t even a third of the way through May. They know who they’ve taken in earliest group, but they’re just now understanding who they may have lost. WashU started soliciting WL offers earlier than most peer schools.

-WL offers come when the school has adequate knowledge of a need. They knew early they were going to be short of their enrollment target, so they made offers even before the 5/1 deposit/declaration deadline. They may lose people to other schools on 5/15 or on 6/15. They will fill as needed. Again, it is only 5/10. They aren’t keeping anyone “in the dark”. Most schools don’t make announcement updates before 6/1 on WL trends unless they know they are full with very limited movement. And even then, they sometimes sit until after July 4th in that.

-not surprised that there are fewer engineering/CS. The school has invested heavily in those areas and those areas are in demand. The school is a more attractive option post East End redevelopment. So I think yield forecasts are trailing to some extent. Which isn’t to say there won’t be offers, but I would not be surprised if there are fewer offers.

Here is a response that I received from our admission counselor this AM:
At this moment, we have been able to offer acceptance to a select group of students on the waitlist. We will continue to monitor space in the class and reach out directly to students if a space becomes available. When admitting students from the waitlist, we may be looking for particular qualities in order to fill our class. For example, we may be looking for students in a particular academic area or from a particular state or region. Because this is based on the overall class, so it is difficult to say at this time if we will be making more offers yet.

Not what I wanted to hear this AM for my kid, but it is a good reality check. Wishing everyone the best!

Thank you for sharing. Son is waitlisted for engineering. Demand for engineering at most schools is high. Fingers crossed for all of us.
