If I were taking my kid to unifieds I would start calling these schools to see what they are planning on doing…just sayin! Each school will be making their own decisions I’m sure and I know NYC doesn’t shut down but the people auditioning aren’t from there…
Yes… I called each school. They said they are planning on being there…but they are also watching the weather… of course if it gets completely crazy out there things may be cancelled totally last minute. Mother Nature is not being nice this weekend!

@duxellen predictions show starting saturday around 4am ish and going through till Sunday am but we are only expected to get 5-8 in most forecasts. So the city will be just fine, easy to get around by cab, uber or subway whichever way you are comfortable. and yes restaurants will be open. No worries on that front. Good luck and safe travels.
NYC can be kind of fun when it snows. Central Park will be full of kids who hardly ever get to go sledding.
At Unifieds now and a bunch of schools are already here, up and running. As well as some of the schools which run theirs at the same time, ie CMU, UNCSA, etc. For those going between Pearl a and Ripley Grier, they are only a block apart. Also plenty of food within a block or two.
At this point, I can’t imagine Unifieds without snow, flight delays or talk about the weather. Can you? It is almost like a final challenge on a Game show. "What? You thought pre screens, callbacks, different audition requirements for every other school, and finding the perfect audition material while staying focused and healthy is stressful? Well, let’s throw in a blizzard into the mix so that physically arriving at Unifieds by your scheduled audition time becomes another challenge! Hmmm… Come to think of it, I think this would be a great idea for a new MT themed board game!
This is a hysterical post- which I must admit made me laugh out loud…could use the laughs since I am literally scared to see how much snow I will see tomorrow morning outside my NYC hotel room! All these weather reports are freaking me out… Hopefully NYC will ONLY get the lower amount of the projected snow totals. I hope I don’t regret coming( that little voice in my head is saying you should have stayed home in Boston where there won’t be any snow…( for once!)

Hope all of you in the city are safe. A travel ban is in effect as of 2:30 today. All Broadway shows for today have been cancelled.
so @rampions you saw UNCSA yesterday? My daughter had a portfolio scheduled at the Crowne Plaza with them this morning and they did not show. I remember someone else on the boards had an audition scheduled at one of the studios. My D is going to look in on them after another portfolio review today.
@theaterwork, NYC does shut down. We were there last year when everything shut down – no cabs, subways/trains, buses, restaurants, or Broadway. It was empty on the streets.
NYC is definitely shutting down today and so I hope those who are in the city are finding a way back to where they are staying. Ban on road travel and no busses. Only subways that stay underground will run. This all goes into effect at 2:30. Even Broadway shows are closed today and tonight and that is rather rare. My D, who lives in Brooklyn, was to have an all day and evening tech rehearsal for the show she is in that opens in a few days. That was cancelled this morning. She was also scheduled to speak at BroadwayCon, but is not going to make it to that. Sorry for all of you at Unifieds. I have to admit that one reason I was never keen on Unifieds is that a lot of auditions are in one weekend and during the winter when things like this can happen and sometimes you can’t even make it to the destination. But I imagine the schools will find a way to accommodate somehow.
I have a NYU audition today at 6:00pm. There’s no public transportation after 2:30pm. Does anyone have any word on whether or not Tisch has closed/canceled auditions?
You have to call the schools. Lots of auditions are still going on, even now. Auditors who are there are stuck in NYC. and most auditioners changed their plans to arrive early and stay close to the studios. So your best bet is to call the schools…

I know @Dusing2 everyone keeps saying “blah blah… NYC the town that never shuts down” … When they get a lot of snow which is anything over 8" I would say they do shut stuff down cause I’ve been there before when this happens. I personally would not go near there in a snowstorm. Especially with doing college auditions which are already stressful! Then getting stuck there on top of it. Ugh. I hope everyone that went still got to audition at some of their schools anyway. I feel for them to be sure . We aren’t going to unifieds next year anyway but I wouldn’t go because of the risk… Too cautious lol
@letterhead waiting for my daughter to go in and audition now. I think I saw your daughter earlier - she and a young man came by and asked the UNCSA people here if they were seeing design candidates and alas were told with apologies that that was a different decision. I guess they had tried phoning the school earlier but of course the campus was shut down because of weTher and no one answered. We all felt so bad for them. How frustrating plus of course they were toting along their design work, which can’t be easy today. I hope for better things for them tomorrow.
So sorry for all those facing poor weather conditions. I know this has to be so stressful, but the most important thing is to stay safe. Schools will make every effort to help you reschedule or allow you to submit a video audition if you are unable to audition as scheduled this weekend. Thinking of all of you and wishing the best for all.
NYU cancelled but as far as I’m aware, most of the others went on as planned. Sitting here waiting for third of the day in fact. The ones at Pearl were going strong this am and at Ripley Grier def CMU, Syracuse, UNCSA, DePaul and Purchase happened although Purchase ended a bit early. Crossing fingers subways still operating underground an hour from now when we’re hopefully out of here!
