Thanks, yes, that was my daughter. I was out by the elevators. She did have a nice review with SUNY Purchase, anyway, and tomorrow DePaul and Montclair St. Worst is the Hamilton tickets for tonight, though.
Oh nooooo - the gods are Not being kind to you @letterhead
Sorry for all of you, this really is very rare for our area. Especially the travel ban. Ugh you had Hamilton tickets??? @letterhead thats rough!! I pray you are all doing the best you can at your auditions.
You know, my daughter has been quite calm and professional through all this. I’m so proud of her.
All of NYU was closed today. So it wasn’t just a decision for Tisch auditioners to make. NYU will shut if the city has a state of emergency (closing buses and subways) and if NYC schools are closed. Same with Broadway. Once there is a travel ban, the shows will close.
IDK during the Christmas blizzard of 2010 the airports were closed, roads were closed, trains and most subways, and Broadway was still open. My kids went to two shows in the blizzard. They had to walk 2+ miles home, but the shows still went on…
Once the mayor and governor close all the roads, issue a travel ban and threaten to arrest/ fine all drivers of non-essential vehicles, the game changes. They are calling it one of the worse blizzards to hit NYC.
OMG- well we survived the blizzard!!! My daughter had 2 auditions today- Michigan and a walk in for Montclair. Both went extremely well so it was worth it for her! I was shocked by the extreme change in the forecast. When I made the decision to come- there was no blizzard forecast for NYC… Just DC and Phili… Etc… Now a travel ban in NYC and NJ… No restaurants open… Broadway dark. Thank goodness we found a little pizza place near our hotel that sold slices! Don’t know what will happen tomorrow… Audition for Ithaca and Fordham…Hope we can get out and drive back home on Monday…Kind of scary!!
We are NYer’s and I completely get why my D applied to southern schools only!! lol!! Though Virginia, where her top choice is, did get snow today too I believe. She said NO SUNYS at all. I cant blame her, I went to Fredonia and man oh man was it cold BRRRRRRRR.
The NYC local stations have been talking about the weather non stop since Wednesday. But they couldn’t agree about the participation totals. They knew it was a big storm with raging winds, but the amount of snow they predicted was inconsistent, depending on the forecast model they used. So beginning Weds the totals were anywhere from 6" to 30". I kept getting emergency notifications on Long Island about being prepared from Thursday onward. So everyone knew a nor’easter was coming with high winds and downed trees, but they were not sure of whether it was snow, rain or sleet. But they all agreed it would be an epic storm.
Today I had my Ithaca audition and since there was NO transportation whatsoever we had to do a 45 min walk in the storm from NOLA to Pearl studios. Hopefully the blizzard calms down and the subway is available so you don’t have to do the same @duxellen
@Joyfulmama no guarantees in Virginia for no snow…my husband works in Virginia and they got about 24-30" . Especially northern Virginia and a bit farther south
This is so crazy!! The pictures I am seeing are nuts! We returned from Michigan - it was 30 there - NYC unifiers carry on!
@joyfulmama and @theaterwork - we did get snow here in Va… rarely get snow like this, but when it happens everything shuts down… It is supposed to be in the high 30s tomorrow, and the 40s and 50s later this week, so… the biggest lesson I have learned about VA weather is how much things can change quickly!
So we got here Thursday & kept a watchful eye on the weather apps pretty constantly…I was awakened early Friday morning by a phone call from American canceling our Sunday afternoon flights & rescheduling us for Monday morning. NBD I thought - but then blizzard warning was confirmed for Saturday & I became concerned, bu we went about our business. D had her artistic review scheduled for this morning at NYU Tisch at 9 am, and got there about 830 - and about an hour after they took the students upstairs the Dean came and told the parents in the room that unfortunately the afternoon & evening sessions had to be canceled. We felt very fortunate that our D got to do what she came here to do, but sad for the other kids who didn’t. We were also really sad for ourselves b/c we had Hamilton tickets for tonight…which were a Christmas gift for D. Oh well. Guess we’ll just have to come back… however, as sad as we were about that, it is a very unique experience to get to walk down the center of the street in Times Square w/no cars but parked police cars and relatively light crowds, so we’re making lemonade out of lemons. But, if Chicago gets hit w/a blizzard the week of Unifieds, I will probably cry…
What an adventure at Snowifieds! When we heard the forecast last week we decided to stay in the city with family, but when we heard we were expecting a real Nor’easter we grabbed a hotel a 1/2 block from Pearl- and I’m so glad we did! The snow brought many challenges (I felt horrible when one mom we know was rushed off in an ambulance after slipping and breaking her leg). The streets were treacherous as were the slippery wet floors in and out of the studios and hotel. All in all it was an exhausting and fun experience, and we have 5 more schools checked off her audition list!
Oh, that poor mom and auditioning child of that mom!
You likely won’t forget this adventure! Great job surviving it while focusing on the fun, positive side of it!
I feel your pain re: Hamilton, @WTXMom . Hope we’ll be able to make that one up. But my D had great portfolio reviews and we were safe and warm and headed home today. Only one more review and then off the hamster wheel for a while!
That’s awful! I’m so sorry about that mom!
Wow, that’s terrible about the poor mom breaking her leg. Like this isn’t stressful enough without that thrown in. We managed to get in all D’s scheduled audition and even one awesome walk-in for a school that’s now jumped up her interest list. But man, am I glad we decided to get a hotel earlier in the week. We’d planned to stay with friends up in the Heights, and even that would have been difficult with mass transit shut down.
