Weather Warning for Next Weekend (Unifieds)

Loved NYC Unifieds even with the blizzard! Very thankful we came in Wednesday (we are from Portland, OR). Stayed 3 blocks from Pearl (grateful for that!). D was able to get 13 auditions in (gah!) and 6 dance calls. Bummed about the shows being cancelled for Saturday as we had tix, but totally understand- it was kinda crazy! Miraculously, our flight went out Sunday eve and we made it home as planned. Met lots of wonderful people but glad we are just about done with auditions! Break legs to all who are headed to Chicago and hope you have wonderful weather!

Oh my. She did 13 auditions all at Unifieds over two days? And the dance calls, usually they are an hour so can not believe she had the energy and time for those. How did you ever even schedule all this. I am a “piker” in all this. But happy you got in and out OK. Missing the shows is sad. Hope the theaters give you tickets for another date. Maybe you could go on your way to her college:)

Snowifieds was CRAZY! Great for the kids who made it to Pearl, as there were plenty of walk-ins on Saturday! So, Chicago auditioners, beware! LOTS of kids will be making up for lost time at Chicago unifieds, so try to sign up for walk-ins as soon as you can!

I wondered how all the schools were going to reschedule auditions:):slight_smile: What a headache for kids and schools. Does anyone know if any of the schools have said we will take videos instead of live auditions if you were scheduled for NYC?

@sbc It was over 4 days- Thursday- Sunday. I think we would have died if it was 2 days! :slight_smile: But she for sure worked her tush off. She did 2 Thurs/Fri and 5 Sat and 4 Sun. And the dance calls were interspersed. We know one family who I am guessing got in about 15-18. We had to do a bunch as she is unable to attend any other Unifieds due to shows. We did have 9 originally scheduled and then she added 4 walk-ins.

I know that Ball State and Rider are both taking video dance auditions for the kids who couldn’t make it to their rescheduled dance auditions on Sunday. And I could be wrong, but I think TCU is taking video auditions? Don’t quote me on it.

Yes- TCU told us they would take video auditions.

Oh my. We did not really look at NYC units so did not know it was over 4 days but still 13 over 4 days is just as crazy with all the dance calls and snow. That just takes a ton of energy to be up and going for 13 schools. And I still have to say the scheduling…EEEK

Scheduling was definitely…interesting! I think the actual Unifieds were over the 2 days, but there were several schools auditioning in town before the weekend, which was extremely helpful! And yes- tons of energy on D’s part. She is beat, but really happy to have gotten it all done!

Thanks to all for the responses on the videos. Just wondering how crowded the Unis coming up would be:) and interested in how schools adjusted. Congrats to all who made it to NYC and made it out :):slight_smile: The city looked gorgeous in the snow but know travel into the city and in the city was a headache.

Luckily the underground subways remained open so we made it from Nola to Pearl easily even after all other transport shut down. Quite the experience

Wow glad something stayed open:) Have friends in NYC and DC and they luckily did not lose power and had stocked up on food so just enjoyed the snow. Also they said many of the restaurants were open so they were out enjoying food and “beverage” with friends, all you MT folks I suspect were not at the restaurants and bars:) but busy getting kiddos from point A to point B:)

@sbc I believe Ithaca said they would be accepting video audition submissions – however they are a pre-screen school, so I would assume that is only for people who already had NYC Unified appointments. And yes, though there were only two “official” Unified dates - Sat/Sun, many schools - some Unified, some non-Unified but doing things at the same time, like CMU, extended that as far back as Thursday and even into Monday (I believe BoCo). My daughter did 7 – one was sort of a walk-in – spread out over 4 days.

For us, storm day itself was no problem at all - took the subway there and back from another part of Manhattan and pretty much stayed in place on the day. But the day after, dragging suitcases and heavy dance bag through slush, over snowpiles, was pretty wretched. Hoping Chicago weather is more cooperative. I do think the auditions there will be crowded, as I was hearing much talk about “flying to Chicago now” in the hallways.

A message of encouragement in the immortal words (or some of them) of Winston Churchill for all those who suffered a setback in the snowy battle for New York Unifieds:

“We shall go on to the end, we shall fight in Chicago,
we shall fight in prairie schools and city colleges,
we shall fight with growing confidence and growing strength in the air, we shall protect our instrument, whatever the cost may be,
we shall fight through snow-clogged streets,
we shall fight through cancelled flights,
we shall fight in practice rooms and crowded hallways,
we shall fight colds and chills;
we shall never surrender, and even if, which I do not for a moment believe, this audition pool or a large part of it were snowbound or rejected, then it shall rise again, and armed and guarded with its most high caliber, shall carry on the struggle, until, in God’s good time, the New Broadway with all its power and might, steps forth to the rescue and deliver offers to its own.”

@stagedoormama, are you really a Stagedoor mama, as in Stagedoor Manor? Several of us here… :slight_smile:

@Calliene Yes! I am! :slight_smile:

Stagedoor takes CC! :slight_smile:
