Weird email

I have found this site on the berkeley website http://www.berkeley.edu/news/media/releases/99legacy/3-23-1999.html which talks about the diversity colition.

I think what they do is select a bunch of middle and low income applicants, wemon, and URMs that they think will get accepted and bother them with letters and phone calls.

it also says this
"UC Berkeley's Coalition for Excellence and Diversity in Mathematics, Science and Engineering sent letters to students thanking them for applying to UC Berkeley and inviting them, if they choose to enroll at UC Berkeley, to take advantage of the coalition's academic and personal support programs.

Current UC Berkeley minority students enrolled in math, engineering and science programs also called these students and offered to answer questions about the campus. In February, the coalition held a reception at UC Berkeley for interested applicants. A reception for admitted students is scheduled for April 10 in Culver City."

this can be interpeted that if you did get a letter it may be an indication that you will be admitted.

From what i interpet my guess is they look at the income of people who they think will be accepted and send those people letters. I'm probably wrong and someone will prove me wrong but im just offering an idea.

im not even close to being considered low or medium income, im gettin no financial aid even from private schools. My counselor told me not to disclose my familie's income on my apps unless the school wasnt need blind, where doing so could help me get in.

...oh well, not that it matters now...

so...does it really really really mean something?

From what i interpet my guess is they look at the income of people who they think will be accepted and send those people letters. I'm probably wrong and someone will prove me wrong but im just offering an idea.

OK, to add to my OOS, male, engineering, white, etc., I also didn't disclose my income information on my app.

ur wrong, my parents are divorced with one house hold making 190k and the other making 250k, sorry

The first paragraph was quoted from above

well..does this have to do with "acceptance" at all?

that letter doesn't mean anything at all. Im a regents scholar candidate and they told me explicitly that i was accepted to berkeley during my interview. i never got that email at all.

I'd say quit with the extrapolating... gettin' hopes up when they maybe shouldn't be, or stressing out 'cause you didn't get an email but u think you got in. It will all resolve it's self within a few weeks then you'll forget about the dumb email.

i know we shdnt speculate but its impt to us out-of-staters who wont receive regents notifications till AFTER we're accepted to the university. Well... 18 days and counting ....

Oh c'mon... only very few people even get the regent's scholars application. If you think you're in the running to be a regent's scholar, you probably feel confident you're in at Cal and should know better than to speculate.

well im just saying that instaters know they're accepted via the regents scholarship. We dont know anything abt that as of yet and thus are needful of speculation to keep our hopes high. Its not impt now...its a matter of a couple of weeks anyways.

I dont know if it signfies accpetance, but I do only know one person who has receieved it from my school, which has a pop. of 700+seniors (30 in IB). So, I think that it is just ppl who they THINK will get accepted, not necessarily people who will get in......so who knows. But i wish the best of luck to all those who has received.....(and the ones who havent to)

bump....bump

Does anyone know if anyone last year got this email and if they were accepted or not?

i got the e-mail and i didn't indicate any financial info on the app (i just left it blank)

from that web site, it says this:

[quote]
The effort began early this month with groups of students and staff phoning applicants to encourage them to choose UC Berkeley. The campus also plans to both phone and make face-to-face contact with every African American, Latino, Filipino and American Indian student offered admission.

are Filipino's underrepresented at Cal? I am Filipino and I got the e-mail. However I didn't indicate my race officially, but in one of those scholarship consideration categories, I selected "of Filipino descent", so maybe that's why I got it????

but what abt the indians, chinese, whites who received this email?

they post your decision on the My Berkeley Account right (March 31st 5PM PST, 8PM EST)
