he clearly said that it wasnt information he was supposed to be giving out and i dont think a school would be nice to feed about 500 people just cause they are nice and remember they cant tell you that it has to do with admissions they might as well tell you "u have gotten in and we would like youto know about this this and this" they cant disclose any of that info yet thats what i think and if it isnt true oh well we all need some hope here while we wait these last days

Wow 500 people attended? What else did they talk about?

about 500 ppl attended but it was for families as well so iam guessing it was about a lil less than 200 applicants plus their families

Sunkist: "My friend got one that's very similar from UCLA and it means you're in. It's a likely letter except email."

I got both letters. The one from UCLA stated that the engineering department had recommended my admission and then went on to talk about all the good things I would get. After reading that, I knew that I was in. The berkeley email just says that they want to let you know more about the school and it does say that this letter in no way reflects on the admissions decisions. After reading that, I thought it was kinda odd but felt in no way that I was in. So I don't think it reflects my admissions in any way.

fun4all~~
r u serious man!!
so it does mean something?!!
wow~

I'm sorry fun4all. I got confused because the letter from UCLA and the email from Cal came at the same time. I assumed they were both likely letters.

14 days, exactly 2 weeks!!!
i suggest we test out our hypothesis on march 31st. everyone who received the email come back and post your decision (if you want to).

in two weeks

i didn't get the letter from ucla, but i got in. i did that get letter from cal though.

Yeah, i really don't think the letter really meant much. It is just an opportunity to see their school, which I think is cool. I was just posting my thoughts. Yeah, I'll post my decision no problem and see if the letter meant anything.

please let the e-mail mean something...haha... :(

did anybody go to it today and find out anything if it meant anything?

i think it does mean something..
i think it means..
that if u got the letter you are admitted..but they only send this to minorities and that if u show strong interest in science/math...etc. but is not sufficiently strong enough in this areas..
i dunno..this is from my understand of this paragraph..
"The programs identify motivated, well-qualified freshmen with an expressed interest in science, mathematics or engineering, many of whom are from groups that often fail to progress beyond the "gateway" math and science courses required for a science or engineering major."

i also found this page...

i dunno..if it means something now..
i hope so..

well i got one and as i said before, im not a minority, and it looks like some other people got it who arn't math/science....english major?

did anyone attend the event at Berkeley for the Coalition for Exccellence and Diversity today? if so what went on?

oh well..ScubaSteve87 i dunno then..
why dont u read the pages i post there..
it might help u a little? i guess? ^O^

ok im really honestly certain the email means nothing. one of my friends that applied with a 1070 SAT got the letter, and im pretty sure she has no chance. Another friend with an 1100 SAt got it too, im almost sure it means nothing. And not to say that ppl with these scores cant get in, im just saying its unlikely

Yeah, I just went to that coalition information session at Berkeley and the email meant nothing. They tell you in the first couple of minutes that it is only an information session and that it means nothing about our admission - in fact some won't get in. Nothing special, but I did get to learn a lot about the school and stuff, so it was informative but just not as special as I thought it would be. In fact, they send that about 22,000 people got invited to the information sessions. Oh well, I guess I'll have to wait till the 31rst to find out anything.

I received an email and a letter about the informational session as well. I attended the session today at UC Berkeley. In particular, I attended the session with the Biology Scholars Program. The people at the session told us that the invitation was in no way an indication of admission into Cal. However, at the same time, the director of the program told us that we were invited based on personal essays and SAT2 scores so they didnt randomly choose people. By the way, you dont have to even be biology major to participate in the program. In fact, the four students talking werent even science majors but people with some sort of interest in Biology.

Fun4All, are you sure you heard them say 22,000 people received the email? What session did you attend at UC Berkeley? I dont recall anything like that at the Biology Scholars Session but rather I remember the admissions lady saying that 32,000 people had applied to Berkeley.

Honestly, Im very confused right now as to what the whole thing means. My English teacher had mentioned way back in October that Berkeley has a sneaky way of telling student theyre in. In fact, back then, he had mentioned that they sent a letter out telling students about their math and science programs. The letter he mentioned and the letter I got sound very similar.

Then again, my English teacher might be wrong especially since the people at the session insisted that the invitation meant nothing about Berkeleys admission decision. Anyway, I dont know what this all means. Im just another high school student hoping to get into Cal.
