I was accepted to all 4 academies with the exception of the Coast Guard, because I did not apply. I received both a Presidential nomination and a congressional nomination to USMA. I got my acceptance letter to USMA the first week of November, and sent in all my paperwork before December. I am a future cadet for the class of 2012. Unfortunately this last week I received news from the ACT board about how my ACT scores are under questioned and I might need to take the test over again. USAFA has my SAT score which is 590 Math and 570 Verbal, but it was my ACT score that more than likely got me in with a 27 Composite. If I take the test and score below 3 points from the 27 Composite, the ACT board will cancel my previous score of 27. The Academy will more thank likely hear about it, but will they drop me from the entering class. Anything would help me greatly.

Woah, why are your scores under review? I've never heard of anything like that...
I've found that it is easier to do better the second time around anyways, so you should be able to get a higher score than 27 Composite, much less a 24.

"Unfortunately this last week I received news from the ACT board about how my ACT scores are under questioned and I might need to take the test over again."

I think the operative word here is "might". Take it one step at a time. This sounds highly unusual to me.

Have you talked directly to the ACT company? They really are just people with a product. They owe you a full explanantion. Here is the website with the pertinent phone numbers: Contacting ACT: ACT Test Contact Information

I have heard of this happening when a test taker has similar errors to someone sitting nearby. You can argue that you weren't cheating, which works in many cases, but if your argument falls on deaf ears, you'll have to retake the exam. I'm sorry to hear this has happened to you and I hope you're able to resolve the situation easily. In any case, a 24 should be easy to hit. Good Luck!

Regardless of why my scores are questioned, the ACT gave me three options. 1)Arbitration 2) Cancel Test Scores 3) Retest and prove scores are legitamate

I am going with option 3, but if I score less than a 24 they will cancel my original 27 composite score. What I am afraid of is that the Academy will drop me out of the potential 2012 class, because I take the test again and make a 23 composite score. Since the 23 composite score is less than the necessary 3 point range to keep the original 27 composite, they will drop the 27 composite score. Do you think the Academy will drop me, after 3 months of being on their list for the class of 2012?

ACT/SAT scores account for a large portion of your academic scores, so if scores are cancelled or changed, I believe your file would be re-evaluated by USMA admissions.

"Regardless of why my scores are questioned"
Admissions may be very interested in why your scores are being questioned. If you have nothing to hide, you may want to address this directly with your Regional Commander. Honesty is the best policy.

I agree with Ann, you should talk to USMA. If not your RC, then contact your MALO.
Maybe your SAT scores were used to compute your WCS...you may have to ask. Now that you are a candidate appointee they will do all they can to help you.

I took the ACT again this February for USMA. I feel for ya but I would do what I did; study up. You got time. Take the cards you've been dealt, stay positive, study up. Do a run through with what matters. I think if you can sacrifice a little time to solidify the score, do it. Don't let the ACT cast doubt in your abilities, confidence is everything. Go take the test knowing you scored a 27 and that you will not only meet that again, but you will go up in score with the study time. Do work buddy.

hsiverio// In my opinion, unless your extracurricular activities and leadership qualities are shabby, your SAT scores would put you in a spot for the class of 2012 at USMA. Also, 23 on ACT is very very easy to earn. I studied for ACT only with the Princeton Review's "Cracking the ACT" for a month and with all the difficulties of reading and writing, and no calculator( I lost it a couple of days before the ACT test date ); I somehow managed to get 23 on ACT with scores of 33 M, 19 E, 16 R, 25 S, and 20 on English & writing composite. So, since you are a native speaker of English of US born Americans -- I assume --, you will get above at least 25 on ACT. Just don't worry about getting a low-score, and focus on a situation what you are facing now. A positive mindset really can change your future.

--P.S. When you retake ACT, make sure (double check!) you bring a calculator. I am not saying that you have to use calculator for every single question. I experienced that ACT wants "us" to calculate and solve the problem, and answer in decimals. I just could not turn fractions into decimals on time without a calculator since ACT only gives you 60 min. to solve and mark your answers of "60" questions.
You will be able to solve all of 60 questions without using a calculator, but it will definitely help you to reduce amount of time you spend on each question.

All appointments can be withdrawn if the admissions department has cause to do so. It would depend on the circumstances of your case. If you are found to have cheated on the ACT, your scores would be the least of your concerns. Cheating is not something that any academy would take lightly.

In my opinion, having read your posts on the the other CC boards for each academy, yes, they would all 4 recind your appointments, as you are absolutely full of crap.

I agree with mom3boys and Simayan on the other forum. You are full of it. Your story is not plausible. You have low scores, and you have stated that you were already accepted to ALL 4 of the academies. In addition, you have not given us any reason to believe that you are a superstar and deserve to attend USMA. It is evident that you are lying to both us and yourself. If we do not believe your story, there is no way that West Point will.
