What are my chances at UCSD / UC-Riverside / UC-Santa Barbara / Arizona State

Hello all, this is my first post on this website.

Anyway, I am a senior with only 9 months (and 10 classes) separating me from graduation. I am looking to move to California or Arizona where my friends already live and I would like to go to graduate school out there. I currently go to UT-San Antonio, and while it has been an ok experience, I certainly am done living in Texas I feel.

As for my background, I was one of those kids who after school just went to college because thats just what everyone else seemed to do. I attended Millersville University in Pennsylvania. I had no idea what I wanted to do and instead of studying and going to class, I partied 24/7 and had a fun time - much of which was at the expense of my grades.

After 5 semesters (and 5 withdrawn classes for no grade), my family decided to pull the plug on me financially for school. So I made the crazy decision to move to Texas and finish up school here. After going to community college for a semester and racking up good grades, I transferred to UTSA and enrolled in the Business school, since then I have gotten pretty good grades and I am on track to graduate this coming spring. I plan on taking the GRE and GMAT in September and I have been studying and reading up on them so I feel confident I can get a good score.

GPA:
UTSA (San Antonio, TX) ~ 3.31 (Business Major GPA: 3.67)
Cumulative GPA: 2.91 (All schools combined)

My GPA has also increased every semester since I have been in college since moving to Texas. Will that count for anything?

I have 10 classes to go, and I could very easily get a 3.00 GPA for my cumulative. I have already knocked out all of my ‘hard’ classes, and what I have left are my business electives.

Anyway I want to go for my MBA or a masters in Finance, and I am currently down to these schools. However, it is hard to get an idea of just how good my chances are just by reading each school’s class profile. Could you guys help me out? I will gladly give more information if needed.

I think your best shot is at ASU.

I agree with above poster ^^^^ ASU is probably your best bet.

UCR could be possible, but their transfer GPA continues to climb.
UCSB/UCSD look out of reach.

Agree, with ASU and California won’t be cheap!

Thanks for the responses!

Yeah, I feel I am safe at ASU the more I look over their minimums (You must maintain a 3.00 GPA on your last 60 credits to be eligible…I have a 3.85 on my last 60 hours including a 3.67 in my Major’s Classes). I feel I can hit their average GMAT scores as well for admitted students as I keep on studying up on what the test asks for.

I thought Riverside was my best bet in California as well. However, I can’t find very good info on their entrance requirements. How good of a chance do you think I stand? I am guessing USC is out of the question as well…

You will notice from the 2nd link, that very few transfer from other 4-year universities especially OOS.

I am confused, didn’t he say he would graduate and looking to grad school at these colleges. Why transfer links @Gumbymom?
