What are my chances at UGA???

Extra Curriculum

Tiger did we say you would or wouldn't get in? lol

Chances threads don't mean much....

Anyway, EC's are Extra-Curricular Activities. Things like sports, clubs, community service, and work experience (a lot of people forget that one).

Are you kidding, of course you will get in. A 4.4, is GREAT, and being black also helps some. You will also be a strong candidate for the honors program.

hey do you guys think I could get in to UGA?

3.569 unweighted
3.862 weighted

26 act (taking it again, probably will get a 28 or so)

EC's:
marching band, color guard, volunteer work, NHS member, part time job as a florist

I want to get into the school of landscape architecture. will for sure get EXCELLENT recommendations from 2 teachers and my guidance counselor.

whaddya think? :)

oh yeah forgot to mention, will have completed 3 AP's (my school does not offer that many AP courses) and like 8 honors classes.

oh and i know for sure my essays will be really really excellent

p.s.-i live in wisconsin, go to a very competitive and prestigious public high school.

How well did you perform in your AP classes?

Ive only taken one so far this junior year; it was AP US history, which they say was the toughest AP at my highschool, and I managed a solid B all year. I got a 3 on the exam, which isnt stellar, but at least I passed.

im taking two more AP's next year; economics micro and english, which im sure ill be fine in both. the econ teacher is amazing (nobody gets below a B in that class) and english is a strength of mine.

I believe you have a shot at UGA, madeline. Just remember: if you don't make it during Early Action, fill out the extra papers and reapply for Regular Decision.

hey how do u guys think my chances are getting in to UGA are?

gpa: 3.86
ACT: 31
SAT: 1310
CC: mostly honors classes, 5 aps total

I currently attend a high school in Georgia that adds 7 points to honors and AP classes. UGA does not take off the 7 points right?(i sure hope not....)
Also does UGA include the essay in the writing section of the ACT as part of the composite score?

btw: im applying for early action
btw2: my class rank is somewhere in the top 20-25% range.......my highschool is extremely competitive does UGA consider this factor?

Thanks all to who reply

Narak, I would say that you have a very good shot at EA.

As far as I'm aware UGA doesn't look at your composite. Just the English and Math sections. Writing section is being collected for data analysis, but I think they're still not using it as a section of an admissions decision.

Narak, UGA does recalculate your GPA. They do not let you keep extra points in those academic subjects.

UGA Undergraduate Admissions - Admissions Info - First-Year Admission Criteria

This link will explain. Look for the paragraph that speaks about "high school grades carry the most weight".

Hope this helps!

I dont know if i have a better chance at applying for early action or regular admissions?

Madeline I would hold off to regular decision. I think you would really need to get that ACT up to(at least) a 29 for early application. Your EC's look good and will only help you in the long run. I would spend my time focusing on writing the best essays that you can produce. That way you won't be writing essays over Christmas Holidays(if deferred). You also could be denied if UGA has a tremendous increase in applications. It does get harder every year. Good Luck!

Personally, it really doesn't hurt to apply for EA. Your ACT isn't bad really, but it wouldn't hurt to bump it up either. Though if you do get deferred, DO right your essays RIGHT AWAY and turn in your application as soon as possible.

does georgia consider 9th grade gpa into the cumulative?

yes, they do. all four years.

im at uga right now, and I haven't seen a person with a high school GPA of 3.1 or lower..

I would say increase the GPA and make sure you get a 28-30 on the ACT, then you will have a good chance

Ok all Iv ever heard are Horror stories when it comes to UGA

I want to know if I can get in and I have already applied for EA

Unweighted GPA: 3.3 :(
Weighted GPA: 3.45

SAT: Math 680
CR 700 1380/1600
Writing 530 1910/2400

I will have finished 6 AP classes by Graduation and I have taken 4 other Honors classes.

I go to Walton High School in Marietta ga

I know my gpa is holding me back
