Your GPA ,ay be a drawback, but worst case scenario, you will be deferred, and then you can not only improve your grades, but your ECs and you could shine in the essays. Don't feel dispaired. Good Luck

I dont think I have the ECs to put me over the top, or to be even competitive, I know that Georgia is using the writing score this year and weighting it more than the other two sections so I think at least I should take the test again and work harder on writing.

GADAWG687008,
I've heard from the UGA rep. that GA was looking at the writing section of the SAT too.
Have you definately seen where they are considering it more heavily that the other two sections?

What is my chance?

GPA 3.86
SAT 1200
SAT writing 670
Top 10 percentile in class
rank 24

Caucasian
Male

I am graduating an entire year early, as a junior, and have applied early admissions. I took 2 AP classes and the majority of the honors classes offered at our highschool. What are my chances of getting in early, or regular, and will graduating a year early look any better? my counselor filled out my evaluation form with excellent marks and explained my situation.

I took 2 AP classes and 3 honors classes

It sounds like you definitely have a good chance. Your GPA is good. And the fact that you graduated early is awesome. I doubt you'll be rejected for EA but rather at worst, be deferred to regular, and i'm sure you'll get in.
How about me:
GPA: 3.56ish unweighted, 3.9ish weighted (its holding me back, i know)
ACT:28
lots of good extracurriculars, really stellar recommendations, and really good essays. (i dont feel like writing more about it all, but they are all really excellent, i promise haha)
I plan to major in landscape architecture, im hoping this will be appealing in that it is a unique and less popular major :)

what do you think? ahh georgia is my top choice

does legacy status come into play because i am a legacy. i cant wait 15 more days.

What are my chances?

Multi-racial, black and white male.

@ onceonce:

you’re probably a toss up. the gpa would normally be too low, but since it’s unweighted and you took AP’s it might not be as big of a dealbreaker. what were your verbal and math scores on the SAT (not writing)? they don’t really take writing scores into account.

you might still have a chance based on your academic honors, extracurriculars, APs, and multi ethnicity.

3.4=UW
4.2=W
*I went to private school before this year so my wighted and unweighted differs because of this

I was wondering on my chances i have a 3.73 GPA, 24/297 class rank, took 2 AP classes(Calc AB, stats),a couple of honor classes, and 21 on ACT.

Silvestre,
ACT is too low, friend of mine barely got in with ur GPA and a 25. She had a friend with a 24 that was denied.

& UGA doesn’t look at rank.

You’re from the A, what school do you go to, I might be able to gauge your chances more accurately.

Alright here we go again :)

I am a white, female, Florida-resident.
I go to a nationally-recognized “gifted” school, where there is an all-honors requirement and lots of AP classes offered.

I have a 3.656 weighted (I know, super low but I had some extenuating circumstances my Freshman and Sophomore year. Hopefully, UGA sees my trend of improvement) and I got a 1940 on my first SAT, without having taken Algebra II. I’m retaking the SAT in a week, and hopefully can score about 100 points more.

I’m a 4 year rower, and a captain nominee. I’m the vice-president and a founding member of the most successful Save Darfur club in the nation (we’ve raised a total of >$8000 in 2 years! :] my biggest achievement imo), and am a member of Charity Water, Save Our Sharks, and my school’s rowing club. I volunteered for the Obama campaign, and will have more than 75 hours of community service when I graduate.

I’m taking the following senior year:
Chemistry II (Organic Chem) Honors
AP Literature and Composition
Economics Honors(possibly switching this to AP)/AP Government
Holocaust/Philosophy
Pre-Calculus Honors
AP Human Geography

I’m an extreme Auburn legacy so no help there

I want to major in sports management/journalism (sports journalism is the eventually job hoepfully) and would love to do an interdisciplinary study. I fell in love with UGA and have visited already. I’m heading back up in a week, and was invited to the invitation preview thing-a-ma-bob.

Please let me know your honest opinion, and let me know anything you think would be able to help my status.

Hijackers - Start your own threads!

Right, this should be a new thread. So perhaps I will post this message slightly modified in a new thread. The point is your GPA and SAT or ACT scores NEED to be competitive. That’s it, that’s all. Stop including things like your race, ethnicity, gender, nationality. It doesn’t make any difference at UGA. There is NO affirmative action at UGA. Is that clear? I am currently a senior at UGA we talk about it in many classes, so I know this for a fact. If you’d like answers on your test scores, EC or GPA then ask those and omit the aforementioned identifiers! Good Luck to you all, stay sane, you’ll be fine!

I am an out of state student, i have a 3.9 GPA (weighted). I have taken honors classes all of my high school career, and 1 AP class (We don’t have many AP classes in my school). I also took a college class at my community college. My SAT score was an 1800 out of 2400. I am also planning on taking the ACT soon. I am involved in ALOT of EC’s. Thanks!

your gpa is DEF good enough. just try to take as many AP’s as possible…UGA loves that. im guessing your SAT out of 1600 is around 1200…if so, you could possibly even get in early action.

I have a 1300, 730 math and 570 CR, I have a 1870 in total, 580 on Writing. I recalculated my GPA for UGA and went from a 4.05 to 3.8, and since they add .05 for every ap, and thus far ive taken 3, i should have a 3.95. I’m taking an additional 3 aps Senior year which would make a total of 6 Aps. I also have taken a lot of honors classes, and hard ones to. My school only offers 8 Aps! So do you think I can get in?

persianman123: How you have recalculated your GPA is incorrect. You do not add the .5 points to your overall GPA to get a recalculated GPA. If you have a B, that is considered a 3.0, and if it is in an AP class, it would then be a 3.5. You would add up all the GPA points for your academic grades, then divide by the total number of academic grades used.

Ok, so i recalcualted and its a 3.9. That helped a lot, but its not a big difference. So what are my chances now. I said before I have a 1300 or 1870, and will end up taking 6 aps and 6 honors courses with a dual curriculum.

My sis got accepted into UGA and Tech with a 3.8+ GPA and 1800 SAT. She only had 3 APs too!
