I go to a highly competitive private school and my GPA is a 8.323. My highest ACT is a 32 (34 on reading, 34 on english, 29 on math, 29 on science). I super score to a 33 for some schools because on a previous ACT, I got perfect scores on the reading and english sections (I am aware UT does not super score, however). What are my chances at getting into UT? I have a moderately good resume. What major/ school should I apply to gain the highest possible chance at admission?
Don’t apply to UT and ask for the easiest major to get into. If all you want is to simply be admitted through the easiest major, you’re doing yourself a disservice because you won’t be doing something you want, and because UT has essentially stopped allowing people to switch majors, so you will be stuck doing something you probably don’t like. Also, you’re cheating others of a spot in a field they are actually interested in, just so you can get in and then switch. Don’t apply just so you can say “I got in” and then transfer. Have a plan, have a major, and if you don’t get in, transfer in later. Don’t cheat someone and yourself just so you can squeeze in.
What is your class rank? Are you in-state for UT? Those two things matter a lot.
Also–this is not 1988 when you could get into a college and then change your major a million times. UT admits to your major and a lot of those majors are competitive for entry. Your chances of transferring to your major of choice are very slim.
@oakland818 I’m aware of how hard it is to transfer. I’m simply curious as to which schools are easier to get in to. I’m not planning on cheating others out of a spot… just curious. Please answer the question and do not criticize!
@Carachel2 , my school does not rank. And yes I am in state. Considering applying to liberal arts economics or maybe communications. Not sure as to what I want to do yet.
“What major/ school should I apply to gain the highest possible chance at admission?”
Kinda sounds to me like youre basically just looking for a loophole
No one knows from year to year what is most competitive. In general, when the decisions come out in late February and the kids who do not get their first choice major have to choose a major, they list the open majors on some of the threads here. You can search for those threads.
Usually very few majors left in Communications and I don’t think I have ever seen Economics still open. No Math or Physics for those who missed Engineering and CS either.
Linguistics.
Hey don’t let people guilt you out of applying to a less competitive major, that’s what I did. No shame!!
Economics, while very good at UT, is not a “competitive major”–meaning, if you get into UT, you’ll most likely get into Econ as a major.
