I just graduated from Maryland last spring. I think if you maintain your GPA of a 3.7 and continue with your activties, you should be fine. I know when I left the average GPA of students being admitted was a 3.9, so you should try not to go below a 3.7 if you really want to increase your chances. I got in with a 3.7. I also recommand doing things in high school that make you stand out, they love diversity at Maryland. I know last fall they got 27,000 applications for a freshman class of 2,000, so anything you can do to convince them they should choose you over the other thousands, is great. But don’t do anything that will lower your GPA. What are you planning on studying? I ask because some majors at Maryland have limited enrollement programs, meaning you go through a two-part admissions process and what you take in high school can strongly affect that. Other than that, I wish you the best of luck, I think you’re smart by starting the process early. Maryland’s a fantastic place, it fulfilled all of my academic expectations of college and beyond. The resources you have access to, professors, courses(challenging but interesting) and diverse campus are all great!!! Let me know if I can help you with anything else in terms of the school.
