I know the category is for Pre-Med but I didn’t saw a category for Pre-Dental
I’m currently a student in a community college. I just changed my major in architecture to a science major. For this Fall I will be taking my science classes. I tried to research what are the Requirements for Dental School, but I couldn’t find a concrete answer. I want to be a General Dentist and/maybe Orthodontist.
This is the schools i’m looking into:
Texas A&M Health Science Center: Baylor College of Dentistry (I’m from TX so this is my ideal candidate)
University of Illinois at Chicago College of Dentistry
University of California at Los Angeles School of Dentistry
University of California at San Francisco School of Dentistry
And should I get my Bachelors before applying to Dental School? Or can I just complete the requirement classes and then apply (of course with the other important requirements like DAT)
I’m pre-med and more familiar with the medical school application process, however, I am pretty sure that the requirements are still the same.
8 Hours of General/Inorganic Chemistry w/ Labs
8 Hours of Organic Chemistry w/ Labs
8 Hours of Physics w/ Lab
8 Hours of Biology w/ Lab
(someone correct me if I’m wrong)
I think after those basics some schools might require specific math classes, english classes, etc.
***I looked up your first choice (Texas A&M) and found this: https://dentistry.tamhsc.edu/admissions/questions.html
Required Classes:
Six semester hours of English
Eight semester hours of General Chemistry
Eight semester hours of Organic Chemistry
Eight semester hours of Physics
Three semester hours of Biochemistry
Fourteen semester hours of Biology – (minimum) 12 hours of lecture and 2 hours of formal laboratory.
Three semester hours of Statistics (from Math or Statistics Department)
Therefore it will vary per school. You should complete your bachelor’s before matriculating to dental school.
