I called admissions and they said the 15th, but the last 2 years they have said the 15th and mailed them on the 14th ... do you think there is any chance that a letter that is mailed from south bend on the 14th would reach chicago by the 15th??

I hope, because Toledo is about the same distance from ND. If it's on the trucks that night, it could feasibly be in your mailbox the following afternoon. I'm thinking it'll most likely come on Monday, but I'm hoping for Saturday.

ahhh I hope! I don't know if I can go the whole weekend without knowing ... I'm seriously considering road tripping it down to south bend and just asking for it haha

Many people were notified on Saturday last year we are from NY and it was Monday

But last year the 15th was a Friday. If they do indeed mail them on the 15th, that means they'd be anywhere at earliest on Monday, because the mail doesn't move on Sunday. I'm just hoping they mail them on the 14th and that I won't have to go another weekend without knowing.

I can't see why they might not mail them on the 14th since the 15th this year falls on a Saturday. Either way I'm sure I'll get mine on Monday.

Handy,
I thought only just deliveries are halted on Sunday? I know the post offices are also closed, but I would think the trucks and planes are still transporting the mail to the main offices to take to the branches on Monday for delivery.

Perhaps priority mail gets shipped on Sunday, but the general rule is mail is halted on Sundays.

I agree, I can't go another weekend without knowing ... it's driving me and everyone who has to deal with me insane :)

Yes, it is extremely plausible (I run a fairly large internet business and know all the regions). Keep in mind that USPS opened up more transmit (not delivery) on Sunday, so many of those who would not expect a decision Monday, will probably receive one.

wait it is plausible for the letter (if mailed on friday) to get from south bend to chicago by saturday .. or monday?

Definitely. I mean, it'll depend on whereabouts in Chicago and how direct of a path it's got to go, but I've mailed letters from Grand Rapids, MI, to the western suburbs of Cleveland, OH, and they've gotten there in a day.

So it's plausible, but don't bet your college tuition on it.

If mailed on Friday I'd give 80% odds it'd get there on Monday, 35% or so for Saturday if you live in a border state. Otherwise very little chance on the next day odds. It all depends also on what time they mail it. If it's bright and early, that means more time for them to put it on the trucks and drive to wherever.

Explain to me how you can give it a percent. I'm curious

Do they mail the decision via UPS? or DHL?

From living in Chicago (and selling items on Ebay) everytime I mail something to a border state, some of the time it gets there in one day and just about all the time it got there on Monday. So using my stats I went around 80% for Monday and 35% Sat. Everywhere else never got there in a day, but usually got there on Monday if I mailed on Friday. Can't a person estimate?

I think he's just curious how you got over a 100% probability of the letter arriving one of those two days.

Well, I think he means, there's a 35% chance it will show up by Saturday, then an 80% chance it will show up by Monday. "By monday" means it's a cumulative probability.

Ahh. That makes much more sense.

I'm not adding up to 100% on both, each probability is separate. 80% that it will get there monday 20% it won't, 35% it will get there Saturday, 65% not.

Actually Handyandy said it better than I did on what I meant to say.
