What do colleges think when you have an elective on your schedule?

Okay. I have student government as an elective. So that course is not an a-g requirement, it's not academic. But all my other courses are AP & college preps. Does having an elective lessen my chance of getting into competitive colleges because my schedule is not "rigorous"?

“This is a perfectly fine student who chose a class they are either interested in or are in because there is nothing else to put there - shows ambition. Let’s accept them.”

What if I’ve only been in that elective for 2 years? because I’m a junior & I’m planning to be in student government my senior year as well

…They think that you’re a normal non robotic person with interests…I’m in student gov too.

What if your elective is something like art/ceramics/photography/band/orchestra/acting/you get the idea…? My school requires one year of visual/performing arts, so I’m in band this year (sophomore). Will colleges take this into consideration, or will they think I’m taking band for an easy A?

Seeing how your school make it a requirement for 1 year, College would consider that. But Threate, Orch, Band, and choir are not truly easy A (unless your teachers are pushovers). If you take another year of Band then it show you have interests outside of the academic area. If there is a class you want to take, just take it. You don’t have to fill up your schedule with 15 AP classes like some CCers here.

“Haha wow what a loser they’re only taking 6 APs and then ART! lmao who does he think he is, van gogh?”

^^hahahahahahahah
