I applied to only 3 schools for Spring 2017 transfer. I applied to Wellesley College, New York University, and Smith College. I have a 3.84 college GPA and several on-campus leadership roles (President, Secretary, Vice President). I had a low GPA for high school because I was struggling with a number of personal issues. I had a 3.35 GPA with 3 Ds and 2 Fs. I found out I got into NYU last Friday. I had low expectations of getting into Wellesley, so I wasn’t THAT upset when I found out I got rejected. I found out today though that I got rejected from Smith College, and that makes me completely and utterly devastated. I am very iffy to go to NYU. I mean it is a good school, but I hate how large it is and how it uses TAs. I really, really, really wanted to get into Smith College, and I feel like crying. What should I do? Stay another semester at my community college and apply for fall entrance? My GPA would be at a 3.88 if I manage to get straight A’s this winter intersession. Or still go to NYU? If I stay another semester, what should I do to increase my chances of admissions? In terms of extracurriculars, I currently hold no positions because I did not run last academic semester because I thought this was going to my last semester. Any insights would be much appreciated.
Have you spent one semester at community college or several? Apparently, if you’ve only spent one semester at college, your high school grades have a heavier weight in your admissions decision. You can stay another semester and try to get your GPA up or you can transfer to NYU and apply for transfer after a semester or two there? In my opinion, I think transfer applicants that attend 4-year universities and can keep a competitive GPA might have a better chance at admission than 2-year college applicants. But good luck in whatever you decide to do!
@jubilant56 I’ve spent 2.5 semesters at my community college. If I do stay for another semester, it would be the last semester that I would do, if or if I don’t get into Smith. I just i really like Smith.
If you don’t transfer to NYU, are you sure you’ll have another good school to go to after next semester (if you don’t get into Smith)? You might want to take the opportunity you have now and run with it. It might boost your chances for Smith and if not, you still have a great school to attend. I understand not liking such a huge school, but who knows-- you might find your niche there?
@jubilant56 you mean transfer again from nyu to smith? because smith is a lac and i don’t think they have a graduate program you can go to.
You have to at least gone to Smith for two years to graduate, right? If you’ve completed 2 and 1/2 semesters at CC, then that’s just a year or so, right? Are you saying that you couldn’t transfer from NYU to Smith?
@jubilant56 Yeah it would equate to 2 years. The thing is idk if I should stay a full 3 years instead of 2.5 years because I really want to go to Smith. And I would want to reapply with a higher GPA and better essays. But then idek if Smith would accept me the second time around.
Thanks for talking with me
No problem! I hope everything goes well for you
