this may seem like a dumb question...but i've always pondered the thought...

on weekeneds, what do students at the UC's (residential ones - where people don't go back home) generally do?

what does their weekend consist of?

UC is kinda like vegas isn't it..you go to the casinos (classrooms) every weekday, gamble with your grade, then go back to your hotel room on the weekend (your dorms).

so if you're getting my point now, what do people do?

i'm not much of a party person ( i know thats what you're all gonna say) - so I'm curious as to what ELSE goes on other than partying on the weekends...i mean some people can get lonely as hell..

I live close to UCB and I used to have some friends there. To say every UC is different is, in a sense, an understatement. Every student is different. Unfortunetely for me, most of my friends were political activists and not much fun to "hang out" with (I did like talking to them though).

My advise is to find your niche, there will likely be other students there too. Even if you're a Republican at a school like UCB, you'll find people like yourself.

UCSB is totally awesome. I spent 6 weeks over the summer there taking classes. There was a lot going on, and Isla Vista (the town) is really awesome. State street is fun, too, though a little more expensive, and you have to take a bus for 5-10 mins. to get there, but it's a lot of fun.

communist smurf- where do you live? I live near Cal, too.

allena: where do you go to college? i know it's a party school.

so on the weekends when you go to your hotel room [dorms, haha] before hittin the casinos again, what do people do at UCSB? i mean i have NO knowledge of this cuz i just never got into reading abou it..

saturday nights stroll along, someone gets bored, what's he or she gonna do?

sit in his bed and watch TV?

what if i don't meet anyone? it's real hard you know...to start all anew..

plus i've never had a god history in making good, new friends....i've always tried to show interest in the other person but nothing was returned to me...so for everyone it's diff.

baller4lyfe - I once met someone from UCSB. It sounds like a great party school for semi-intellectuals. At least that's a broad stroke. The standards for getting in are high enough that not "everyone" can get in and the environment/location are ideal for the party scene. One UCLA student told me when she visited UCSB, she thought it was so beautiful that she couldn't believe it was a UC (she was one of the smartest people I've ever met).

highschoolda - If that's what you want, USC is the best option. At least that's what I hear.

baller4lyfe - Your response/analysis of my statement is non sequitur as I never called them stupid. Perhaps you might be confusing semi-intellectual (note the correct spelling) with psuedo-intellectual. I stand by my assessment.

school: lol, i have heard that several times.

but can anyone answer my thread still? have gotten no results..

COMM, it's all good bro, i prob. misunderstood what you were tryin to say.

yeah, along with UCD: university of crackheads and di**heads
usc: university of spoiled children
ucr: university of california REJECTS [go here 'cause they were rejected from all the other uc's which were better than this one...lol..)

but can anyone tell me what they do @ sB? i mean where are all the parties thrown? at the campus or at isla vista ?

baller... you can do sooo much at ucsb. There is a city a few miles away with movie theaters, food.. ect... you can also go to the beach which is about .0000000000000001 inch away. There are intermural sports... football, basketball, FlAG football, volleyball; you are put on a team and play an entire season. Schools host video game torney's and other stuff on the weekends. Why are you so worried about meeting new people? You have to live with 3+ other guys.. they're almost forced to hang out with you. My g.f lives in the dorms at a local CSU and i visit about 2 times a month and have met about 40 people in the past year and a half. I suggest not voicing your worries about meeting new people.. it makes you sound rather lame IMHO.

Prison, that sounds real fun...all the stuff you're saying..WOW...i'd really love to experience all of it..i know the beach is .1 inch away...which is RAD...(haha what if UCSB is hit by a tsunami..)

when you say i sound lame about not meeting new people bro, it's not that i'm worried...rather...concerned...i guess..

how many guys are assigned to a dorm? you're saying i live in a dorm w/3 other guys? what about the apartments? which is generally better to meet new people/more people, the dorms or apartments?

and what if i get thrown in a room w/3 school dweebs? they don't do anything...just hit their books...watch tv, and that's it ? how bad would THAT suck?

i need someone who shares my characteristics/interests obviously so i don't get bored...

you really do motivate me though when I hear you talk about all those exciting moments that I can experience....sounds fabulous...

oh yah, one more thing, and this is a BIG point, will my roommates be MY AGE? (20 yrs.)

I mean there's no way I can be thrown in a room w/an 18 year old....i'll just drive back home..

normally they have transfer dorms. You'll probably be put into a room with 2 other guys... making you the third. Chances are... you'll get atleast one cool guy in your dorm... you will be going to ucsb not yale. but you're going to have to party... its just a fact of life.... college is great, go there with no worries and i'm sure everything will work out fine. take a trip up there... it'll ease your mind.

edit: plus... those parties sound kick ass... count me in.
