It was just something I was thinking about, and wondering about peoples' opinions on the most presigious jobs. What do you guys think?

I would think US President and Supreme Court justice are pretty prestigious. Oscar winner, Playboy publisher or CEO of Microsoft may impress some people also.

hehe what about jobs for normal people? wow i really liked that post. totally not what i was expecting people to say :D

Professor.

really? what makes you say that?

Anything that makes a lot of money is prestigious.

So drug dealer would qualify?

Well how much people get paid isn't necessarily a sign of prestige. It's a matter of economics. As more and more people go to college and refuse to do blue collar jobs, blue collar workers are going to make more. There's a reason garbage collectors make $100 an hour on holidays and the average unionized dockworker in Long Beach makes over $100,000/year. Compare that to the starting salary of a U.S. diplomat (which is what I'm considering) who has an advanced college degree: $43,000.

uc_benz, i'd be interested if you could defend your opinion. Like what do you think (generally, i know that anything can make a lot of money of you're good at it, cough j.k. rowling cough) makes a lot of money?

Going into the Army, being a teacher, or being a doctor are three jobs I highly respect.

A Doctor, or someone that volunteers in another country for a few years. I respect those who give back to society instead of taking away from it. This does include what kinglin just mentioned of his three.

Agree with that. I respect professors, doctors, writers, senators, etc. Basically, any person that shows even the remotest desire to help or improve society in some way, instead of just collecting a truckload of money through a social darwinist attitude. Regarding uc_benz's comment, professional atheletes make more money than most people, and I wouldn't consider them prestigious, just dedicated entertainers.

The most prestigious career is the one you truly love.

Mothers ;-)

Doctors, teachers, researchers, humanitarians...

Doctors, professors, headmasters, deans, military officers...

oh, I want to make clear that I didn't start this thread with the hope of finding myself a career, in the sense that I only want a career that's prestigious. I don't mean that at all. I'm not sure what I want to be anymore, but I will certainly choose a career on its value to me, not necessarily its percieved value from other people. I was just wondering what the general public thought of prestige.

Doctors, CEOs, Head Anchors, Top Lawyers

Now that I think about it, I don't really find my job that noble. I'm one of those people that get a thrill out of day trading stocks all day. But the more I think about it, it seems like a job for the money. Now if I was to become an entrepreneur, I find that a respectable job. Granted I'm not like the Enron guys or anything. If I do end up becoming an entrepreneur, I will donate a lot of time and money to charity...... or at least I say so now. I don't know, I will probably major in Economics, and I feel there's a lot of respectable jobs in that area.

I hope I'm not being too off-topic by asking this, but do you believe professional athletes make too much or too little money?
I don't know about the general public, but I think they make too much when it comes to advertisements- even though there is virtually no other way to get around it (not that I can think of at least)!
