What happens if you drop a class this semester?

^that^
My first choice is UCSD and major is Computer Science. Now UCSD do not want me to take Differential Equation(it is not even recommended, but it is a requirement for Computer Engineering), but other UCs want me to, that's why I took it along Calc 3 and C++ this semester so that if I didn't get into UCSD, I could have other options. I have hard courses and I don't think I could handle Diff. Equ.
If I get into UCSD and then drop this course(get a W), would that cause a problem?!

The people that know work in admissions at UCSD. You can call them and get a reliable answer. Or you can go on what some anonymous person tells you on the Internet. Your choice.

Of course I will talk to someone in UCSD before doing anything, but I was wondering if someone here know a friend who had a situation like mine, or is going through the same thing…just gathering information on this

I remember reading a similar topic on college confidential. The person was in the same situation as you and he dropped the course b/c he got into CAL and CAL didn’t require the course he was enrolled in. He called his admissions officer and according to him, his admissions officer told him dropping the course would have no impact on his admission. hope this helps.

Aah thanks, sounds good.

@bolandgoo I spoke with UCSD about this and they said as long as you do not fall under the 60 unit mark, you will be fine if it’s not for your major prep or IGETC, etc.

@ocnative: you have no idea how much you have helped me and others on this forums with your comments
anyway, that sounds great. Neither major prep nor IGETC. I actually emailed them too, when I get a response I will post it here as well.

Ok this is the email I just received from UCSD undergraduate admission office:

"As long as dropping Differential Equations does not result in your earning fewer than 60 transferable units by spring, and your grades remain competitive, there should be no impact in the admissions review.

By the way, Ws are of no consequence. They do not compute into the gpa.

Be sure to submit a new Academic Transfer Update form to show this change."
