What happens to GPA when you transfer?

Hello,
I am a student who would like to transfer from Emory after my sophomore year. I know that GPA essentially resets at the new school that one transfers to, but I would like to know if the GPA from Emory will be considered when looking at awards and honors for graduation? Also, the GPA I send to grad schools would be my overall GPA right? Like the GPA that has accumulated at both schools in a total of 4 years? Thank you in advance for any information.

“… GPA from Emory will be considered when looking at awards and honors for graduation?”

Yes. Your old grades will not affect your Emory GPA (this is the case for most schools, so I assume it is the same for Emory - I see no reason for why grades from one’s previous university/college would be considered in their Emory GPA).

“Also, the GPA I send to grad schools would be my overall GPA right?”

Yes. ALL college coursework must be reported. It can be sort of complicated, depending on what you want to go into, and where you want to go. For example, law schools do not consider remedial classes as a part of one’s GPA. Grad schools may calculate your GPA differently than your college(s) have. Research that on your own - I’m not really qualified to explain that whole process at all.

But contextually, you seem to be wondering if the grades from your previous college will be considered by grad schools, or if your Emory GPA is the only figure they consider. Again, they will consider ALL college grades - so there’s an answer within the context of your question.

Thank you for your answer. However, I currently go to Emory and am looking to transfer somewhere else. Thus, my question is will my Emory GPA be taken into consideration at the school I transfer to when calculating awards and honors for graduation. A post on another forum made it seem like they would.

Probably not, but it’s possible that I’m wrong.
