To be eligible for tag you need to have a 3.0 by the end of fall 2010. But our apps for tag are sent in by November right? So how will I get confirmation from my school that I an eligible for tag then?

No, you will not be elegible
TAG clearly states that you must have a 3.0 THROUGHOUT your time at the CC

where? dont feed bs if you dont know the facts. some campuses state you need to have a 3.0 by the end of fall. UCSD for example says this

Um what? So if someone had a 2.9 in their first semester but a 4.0 for the remaining time they would be ineligible is what you’re saying? Just because of that one semester of 2.9. Sounds like non sense to me and completely ridiculous.

If you get a 2.9 one semester and a 4.0 the next, that averages out to around 3.4. Hes saying that ur average has to be atleast 3.0 throughout. If your average UC gpa is 2.9 you can’t tag unfortunatly. But you can still apply, Im sure you will still have a decent shot.

I know but what I’m saying is that my GPA might not be 3.0 until this semester is over and since Fall grades DO get factored into the GPA then how will I be able to check TAG if I don’t have a 3.0 until after apps get sent it.

@Little_Duck: For UCSD they will send you a “conditional” TAG acceptance in November. The conditions listed on here will be something to the effect of the following…

1. Raise GPA to ABOVE a 3.0 by fall 2010
2. Maintain ABOVE a 3.0 GPA until time of transfer to UCSD
3. Complete ALL classes listed on TAG application (includes the classes you are taking now in fall and the classes you “planned” for winter and spring)

If you do all of the above THEN you will be accepted with TAG at UCSD (again something to this effect but not exactly). If you do not follow the above then they will rescind your admission. As for UCI and some other UC’s you need to have a 3.0 GPA by the summer of 2010. So in that case it would be too late already and not worth applying with TAG. That said, I would still highly recommend you to apply to those schools with the general UC application in November.

I hope this helps and all the best

@TonyPreMed2013 hi! I know that UC going to take Fall Grade into consideration for TAG if you are above 3.00 GPA after Fall term. But what I still don’t understand is the units requirement. 30 units is the minimum units you have to have. But right now I have 29.5 units but I am taking 19 units right now, so if they do count Fall grade, they also count the Fall units as well right? which mean I would have more than 30 units which would be qualify for TAG right?

Thanks!

@Ktran13, you must have completed 30 units by the time of TAG applications. If you only have 29.5 units, you are not eligible for TAG.

UCSD TAG requires that you maintain a 3.0 overall GPA (in UC transferable courses; they don’t care about non-UC courses) throughout the year for which you’ve applied as well as a 2.0 minimum per semester.

I know this is an old thread but there is a lot of misinformation on here. UCSD requires you to have a cumulative GPA of 3.0 by the end of the fall 2010 semester. If accepted in the Spring, they will require you to meet a certain GPA for the Spring 2011 semester (usually around a 2.7 - 3.0).

^cumulative? source?

thought it was just UC GPA

You are correct - they look at your cumulative UC GPA. I was addressing the people that said you needed to have at least a 3.0 every semester.

^ oh lol i was shating bricks lol

lame question but here it goes:what if you’re GPA drops to 2.98?any chance for TAG for SD?

Well there is no chance for TAG. But I would say you still have a decent chance for general admission.

@SBdude:you think I would have a chance?I seen their average GPA for admission and they say 3.4.I’m lost cuz of this.

whats your major?

There’s just so many variables that come into play so it’s really hard to give you a definitive answer. If you don’t TAG I think the majority of it comes down to this:

GPA

Transferring from a CCC

Math/English requirements done by the end of Fall 2010

Major prereqs completed by the end of Spring 2011

IGETC completed by the end of Spring 2011

GPA trending

Individual circumstances

So if you have most of that stuff done but just miss the cutoff by a few points, you could still have a legitimate shot at getting in. It’s hard to say though because every year the standards get more and more rigorous. I would do your best to get Academic Renewal or ace your current courses though because TAG is a much better alternative. UCSD is one of the top public universities in the nation so we should all feel blessed that California has such a great transfer system with them. The average transfer GPA is relatively high as well because a lot of UCLA/UCB hopefuls end up going to UCSD.
