As the title states, what class do you regret taking or wish you didn’t take? It can be requirements that you didn’t want to take, like the dreaded P.E. class.
Just trying to make it fun.
Oh, and if you really want to go out of your way, then provide a class you wish you did take. This one may be guided towards seniors and graduates.
Church history. It’s a requirement at my private (Catholic) school and it’s easily the least interesting class I’ve ever taken.
Second class I wish I’d never taken was advanced Spanish at my school. Senior year I had like 10x the amount of work compared to my friends who were in normal Spanish. However my writing did improve quite a bit, which I guess is a positive.
Macroeconomics. Could have gotten out of it by taking APGP. The teacher made everything needlessly difficult (it’s not a hard subject! I took it again in college and got an easy A!). It was the only class in HS that actually threatened my 4.0.
I wish I didn’t take APES bc it was the most tedious class at my school.
A class that I wish I DID take would be AP 3 (AP English Lang). This class & APUSH are the most rigorous & have the highest suicide/failing rate at my school lol bc the teachers made it extremely difficult. But in the end, everyone made 4s & 5s. Overall, my school is a magnet/college prep school, so all classes at my school are rigorous.
Intro to Engineering Design. I’m taking it right now. I haven’t learned anything, and I really wish I had taken AP Stats. Might as well take a useful BS class than just a regular BS class–plus I could have gotten AP credit.
IB Physics SL. The whole class was just a waste of time and money (we had to pay for the exam), because the teacher didn’t know how to teach, and it didn’t count for college credit, or my IB Diploma. I would have rather taken an easier AP course or just added a second study hall.
@metsfanAJM yeah truly IB Physics SL is/was a joke; I wish I would’ve taken Advanced Physics instead, which is precalculus/calculus-based and closer to AP level at our school.
I also regret taking Intro to Business and Marketing my freshman year. I don’t know why I ever thought I was interested in business. All we did was petty much research different careers, so I had no motivation in that class. Luckily it was an easy A, so I skipped a whole project and still got a away with an A- for one of the grading periods.
Physical Education of course, my classmates were a bit funny but I still didn’t really like the class, at least I’m done with it.
I also didn’t like General Science, most freshmen take Biology but I had to take it since I came from a private school and I horrendously failed the placement test for Biology. The class was extremely easy, I didn’t study and I barely focused on the work but I still maintained above a 110% in the class. I didn’t know anyone in the class but I met a girl who was in the same boat as me and all we would talk about is how much we didn’t like the class LOL. I deeply regret taking the class and not preparing enough for the placement test because I’m a year behind in high school science classes now.
@anm2015 Health in my freshman year was a complete joke. All I seem to remember is that there are a lot of forms of contraception and an equally large number of STDs! If it weren’t a required class, I definitely wouldn’t have taken it.
Class I wish I had not taken:
AP Spanish – forgot all of it anyways and I’m embarrassed to even try practicing it at the right opportunities / the thought comes up every now and then and it’s painful.
What I wish I had taken instead (of above and also other not very important AP classes):
Engineering courses, specifically those teaching AutoCAD. Electrical engineers are typically taught with other design software while many jobs ask you to be familiar with the piece of junk known as AutoCAD just because I guess it’s been there longer, IDK. Simply, I’ll have an edge over a majority of the candidates applying.
APWH was mandatory but if I had the choice I wouldn’t have taken it. Credits are useless and barely taken anywhere if you can get the 4/5 and I stressed way too much for the 3 I ended up getting. 2 out of my 3 teachers for it over the course of two years were meh as well.
