I’m currently in 2nd year (Sophomore) in an Irish university and I’m considering a transfer to Cornell University.
While I was looking at their requirements I came across a term called “Sophomore standing” and what they have written is as follows : To achieve sophomore standing in a particular major applicants must have completed at least the equivalent of all Cornell courses listed under “sophomore standing.”
Can someone explain what standing means and what the above statement means?
Thank you very much for the help.
It means that you have enough credits to be considered a sophomore (typically 30 credits) and have completed any courses that are required as a freshman in that major. If you are speaking about engineering, the below is a good guide.

@skieurope Thank you very much for your concise answer
I am an electrical engineering major doing first semester of college with 37 credits taken so far including AP and this fall semester. During spring semester 2018, I will be taking 21 credits. If I apply for transfer to Cornell during Spring, will I be considered a junior standing with 58 credits or with 37 credits?
