Also, the sight says that some students will be invited to take the writing test to be placed into either, and that the test does not serve to be an exemption

Does this mean taht this year, there are no exemptions from writing 5 and that every student has to take it?

Ask the first-year office.

Writing 2 and 3 are actually useful courses if English is not your first language. Writing 5 is virtually useless regardless of your command of English. There’s not a lot to know about them – they’re just mostly irrelevant requirements. Most, if not all of what you learn about writing at college will not be learned in Writing 5.

No, there are exemptions from Writing 5, I think it just depends on what you get SAT check this site out [Writing Courses: Placement and Enrollment Policies](http://www.dartmouth.edu/~writing/courses/policies.shtml)

And Writing 2-3 and 5 are useful, it just depends on who you have as a prof.
It helps everyone get placed on the same level, so for those who can’t write, they get a few useful techniques on how to write an effective paper, but for those who think they have the best writing in the world…well it might be an eye opener for them.

Hope this helps!
