What is the Most Competitive Major at GWU?

I got accepted into GWU as a HS student, but did not end up going to college, instead I am going to a school in CT. However, I want to keep my chances of transferring open and am interested in actually going to GWU.

At my school I am majoring in finance, but as an applicant to GWU I got in with a journalism major. I want to end up with a Finance degree, but should I apply as a journalism and switch over to the school of business once I'm in? Is that move possible?

It’s definitely possible to switch schools at GW, but none of the different schools are drastically more competitive than the others. You should probably just apply to the school of business that way you can show that interest on your application- what GW really likes is students passionate about their studies, especially since you’re a transfer student and should already know what you want to do. Like I said, switching schools is possible, but you’re going to have to switch advisers, curriculums, and deal with a lot more bureaucratic red-tape than necessary.

The amount of red tape is enough to cause a headache. Just apply to the business school straight up. I’d even say SMPA (journalism) is more competitive. I even think some kids applied there and didn’t get in and had to stay in Columbian (unless I’m getting confused because it’s too late).

Moral of the story: apply straight to the business school.

there’s talk of just making everything one undergraduate college to make taking classes in different “schools” easier. hopefully it goes through.

What about applying to the school of arts and sciences with an economics degree instead of something in the school of business.

Also does the fact that I got in as a HS student help me in any way?
