<p>Hey, I just think Dartmouth fits the Ivy mold set by Princeton Yale and Harvard a little more. When I think Ivy League I think of poets and politicians, not enginerds :) And since Cornell has an engineering school, thats why I think its less Ivy-esque. Thats all. Its not like being less like the rest of the Ivies is a bad thing.</p>
<p>Cornell is indeed the least Ivy-like Ivy, but it's mainly because it is not as old of an institution as the other seven. </p>
<p>It has nothing to do with programs. In fact, I don't think Cornell's programs are "too different," since each school has its unique programs. Also, since Cornell has excellent research programs, it is not less prestigious than other Ivies other than among elitist members that posts in CC. </p>
<p>Secondly, an earlier comment on that Cornell has "too large" of an undergrad enrollment doesn't seem to have any relevance to me. The Ivy league is not explicitly about undergrad focus. Penn, Columbia, Harvard, and Cornell are all grad focused rather than undergrad focused. Columbia has the largest enrollment. Cornell, Columbia, Penn and Harvard all have about the same enrollment.</p>
<p>Also, you must be naive to think that other Ivy schools don't have nerds solely because of engineering. I would say that Harvard probably has a greater percentage of "nerdy" people than does Cornell.</p>
<p>of the 13,000 undergrads at Cornell, 2,700 are in engineering. Not an overwhelming percentage.</p>
<p>How can anyone claim with a straight face that a school considered by most who know a sizeable amount about universities in the world to be in the top 20 in the world and even higher by many places such as Americans is the most underrated school? Even if it's the best, it's only a really small gap away, relatively speaking to the 3000 or more other schools in the country. If it's only a handful of spots or a few tiers away, it's not really making that big of a jump, is it? Think about it. Don't you think that the most underrated schools be the ones that almost nobody knows about or thinks much about, but are right behind the best? That would be far more sizeable in my eyes.</p>

<p>Sadly, so true. Even those at about "100ish" level that should be about 50 are more underrated than Cornell at the 20s if it is the best. But again, few here care, eh?</p>

<p>young people need to get out of their fantasy dreams of having that 'manhattan rich, young, successful lifestyle' living in manhattan doesn't make you special or superior, it makes you the tenant of an overpriced/tiny little apartment (the size of my closet) and another face in the crowd, trying to act like an individual, living 'the big city life'....give me a break....and the tuition is a complete reflection of the island of manhattan itself: expensive and overrated...especially in terms of the educational quality...</p>
<p>dont get me wrong, i love manhattan, but i think its annoying when all teh young people wanna move out there and live this lifestyle and waste all their money on an overrated school...haha i guess i sounded al ot more passionate about the topic than i really am, but still..</p>

<p>I just realized one thing...unless people are in here, commenting on the 'overrated-ness' of their own school, then they have no valid argument to offer regarding another school being overrated, because just how the heck would we know!</p>
<p>This entire thread is based on observations/assumptions...unless the topic was 'most overrated campus or sports team, etc' then what are we doing here sitting and analyzing schools that we've never attended?</p>

<p>Harvard is the most overrated, here's why: </p>
<p>I'm not talking academics here, i don't know anything about that. Because of its status as the number one school in the country/world, Harvard doesn't need to do the things that other top schools ranked lower do to keep students happy. I've heard that the social life not only sucks, but that the housing situations foster self-segregation and leaves a lot of kids on thier own. because it can draw from the top of the applicant pool without doing anything besides simply existing, Harvard has no incentive to make life better for the students enrolled.</p>
<p>There's a book called University without a soul, or something like that, in which a harvard dean (i think) talks about how the university has lost it's focus on undergrads completely and doesn't do much for them anymore...</p>
<p>smile222, I, myself, would not be so presumptuous to declare Harvard as overrated because I was never a student there. However, my friends went there (both undergard and grad) and I visited the campus frequently, attended parties, hung out in Harvard Square, etc. and I agree with you in that in some ways it lacks "community" feeling, however you want to define it. The campus is somewhat fragmented and spills over into Cambridge, and I didn't get the sense that students had any bonds with each other. Plus, like most large research schools, there are grad students everywhere, and it's hard to differentiate between the two populations. Then again, this might be true of most large research schools in urban or semi-urban settings.</p>
<p>We're not declaring. We're just voicing our opinions that such a school is overrated, based on what we hear of its reputation and what we hear from people who are connected with the school.</p>
<p>No one is saying that our statements are absolute truths; they are filled with inaccuracy. But that doesn't mean we can't talk about it. It's a discussion forum after all. Some of us are bored and would rather debate meaninglessly. If you don't want to, don't post here.</p>
