I'm a junior right now, and I will be taking my first SAT in Dec. Obviously I know what the blue book says about what should go through your head and what happens, and what some online blogs say about what goes on, but i want to know what really happens.

My goal is a 2250. Is that reasonable? Obviously it's difficult, but is it attainable?

Of course it’s attainable. However, I hope you don’t mean a 2250 by December. From now until next December you have plenty of time (assuming you actually utilize it) to achieve that score. If you’re a good student and you’re naturally good at one of the three subjects tested on the SAT, expect around an 1800. Then a year to raise it up 400 points is absolutely doable.

I took the SAT my senior year without studying and I actually slept through an entire portion of the exam (don’t ask, seriously) and got a 1700. There’s also a downfall because if you don’t know the concepts well the test actually seems so easy. The thing is, it’s not. I would suggest that for a 2250 you have everything down cold. Especially the things you’re good at so if need be you have more time for the things you’re not.

But, and anyone on here will tell you this, take as many practice tests as humanly possible.
