What kind of colleges can I expect to get in to/should I look at?

I am currently a junior and am having mixed feedback from parents, counselors, etc. about what schools I can get in to, and would love some feed back of schools to check out, things to improve in my transcript, or basically anything you can gather from this. Thanks!

SUNY’s are good schools at a great price. Pick one or two at least to apply to. Good SAT. GPA a bit low. What’s the budget? Where do you want to go? Top 10/Top 20 are a long shot for everyone but probably a big longer for you with a 3.55 GPA.

You need a safety that you can both get in to as well as afford. Find a couple matches and one or two reaches. You are in the running for some of the automatic merit schools. The link is all over CC but I don’t have it readily available.

Unless you are trying to hit merit aid, applying to more than 5-6 schools is tough from supplamental essays to college visits. More merit aid in the South. Much less in Northeast.

Oh, and because everyone asks, NYU does not give good financial aid and UCs give no aid to OOS students. Presume you aren’t in the running for National Merit Finalist or you would have noted it? That brings in more merit at certain schools.

^^ A 3.55 GPA isn’t low unless you’re trying to go to a top 20 school. You can get into tons of good schools with your GPA and SAT score.

Look into St. Lawrence (average HS GPA: 3.6) for a match school, as well as its overlaps (further matches and some reaches):
