That's interesting. What brought on the shift? The rise of the fundamentalist Christian right?

"any man who is under 30 and is not a liberal has no heart" (conservatives have brains. in this day and age, one could care less about what your heart thinks.)

"any man who is over 30 and is not a conservative has no brains" (aha. a man who is over 30 and is conservative has brains.)

either way, conservatives win :)

and if you're over 30, incredibly evil, no heart, no brains.....then you're Dick Cheney.

neverborn is right. but as of recent (the past quarter century) the paradigm has shifted and now conservatives mean the opposite.
[/quote]
You saying conservatives are lame. When I am the true definition of a conservative is a bit of a misnomer then, right?

you are a noninterventionist. :)

Christian right=big government=statists=leftists. No conservatism there.

I hate it when conservatives claim Christianity; its completely groundless!

and yet, neverborn, your argument is not substantiated.

people should be able to live as they wish according to conservatives, huh?
then explain to me why...

they won't allow gays to marry
they won't allow women to be in control of their own bodies
they won't allow people to determine when they believe life begins
they won't allow people to have the right to die

is that really allowing people to control their own lives? really?

you can say conservatives are about individual freedom, but the status of the conservative movement today just doesn't reflect it.

thats because shes from the old school (pre-1950) term of conservitive.

just be moderate and get the best of both worlds:)

all liberals must read-explains why democrats are sure to lose, forever

http://www.theonion.com/content/node/45793

being moderate is where its at!

Moderate it is ! Conservative people are usually not as moral as you think, they are usally the most racist and the ones that are more willing to start a war with anyone who comes in there way. They use thier morals only when it is benefits them i.e 6 weeks before the election.

Moderate implies neutrality:) I prefer the term independent since one can look at both sides and still end up on one side of the fence

tomato toMAto

neverborn, while conservatives may care a lot about individual liberty/freedom, I'm against the death penalty, for gun control, for government "interference" in the economy, for affirmative action, for the international criminal court, for a ban on torture (just because there are a few hypothetical exceptions where torture might be justified doesn't mean we shouldn't ban it in general), for protecting the environment, for progressive taxation, etc.
so really, the conservative conception of freedom is very different from mine. conservatives want to be free from responsibility to others, in my opinion. i on the other hand want everyone to be free from injustice.
the only major conservative position i agree with is more privatization of healthcare (no nationalization like they have in europe). and that's not because i think the government should stay out of the private economic sector. i just think it makes for better services in this situation.

I want to be from from 40% taxes even though I'll most likely never get up there :p

Mallomar: Against the death penalty, against gun control, against unconstitutional interference in the economy, against affirmative action, against the ICC, for a ban on torture, for protecting the enviroment (who is?), against "progressive" taxation....

Here's a couple to mix it up for you:
For a woman's right to choose
For gay rights
and for drug legalization.

i'm conservative, even though i may differ in some points.

1) i do not adovcate gay marriages. traditional society must maintain the norm since day 1...new emergences will wreak havoc and prove consequences one day (just like myspace and other new things are compromising my social life!)

2) i allow women in full control of their bodies (meaning i am pro-choice, but only under extenuating circumstances, as the nature of the incident is to be analyzed)

3) i do not advocate euthanasia. if somebody wants to die, go do it yourself. how dare you plague others to assist you in doing something which they, one day, could feel as if they have committed a heinous crime! the feeling can alter one's life!

4) all health-deteriorating drugs should remain illegal. i don't give a (omit) if medicinal marijuana will alleviate a kind of pain; do it another way (there's always more than just 1 way).

having said that, i'd say i'm more of a moderate, but still with conservative taste.

I am a conservative and disagree with all four of those points. In fact, baller is contradicting himself in #2 - He is not in favor of women to have control, he is in favor of women to have full control under "extenuating circumstances."
