What’s the deal with Conservatives?

"A leaked intelligence report that was just published in the Times says the war in Iraq has created more Islamic radical bent on kill us..."

Of course radical Islamists are p**ed off about Iraq! They understand that a democratic Iraq could (and most likely will) very quickly snowball into other democracies across the Middle East. This is some scary s*t to them. A democratic Middle East will mean the end of them in any kind of legitimate ruling position, and with that, a dwindling of support. Obviously, they are angry -- terrified, more like it. We're throwing a big ol' stick into their spokes with Iraq.

Should we stop now because they're angry that we're hurting them? Oh, we shouldn't fight them, because gulp they might fight back! You guys are a bunch of defeatist vaginas. Grow some balls; your civilization is at stake.

Remember that these people declared war on us on 9/11. In kind, by democratizing the Middle East, starting with Iraq, we are simply hitting them where it hurts the most. We are actually killing radical Islam in the most humane, compassionate way possible.

What the radical Islamists understand is that the U.S. is probably going to attack their country in the near future, therefore they are hostile towards us. This is the same reasoning that we used to attack the radical Islamists which creates a very vicious circle.

I agree with Drew. While we cannot just sit back and let the world go to hell, what right do we have to try and fix these other countries?

Oh, and btw, Fides, "You guys are a bunch of defeatist vaginas." is not a statement that reflects especially well on you. Is there really any point in trying to make us angry with your sophomoric insults?

Just calling it like I see it. If you don't appreciate being called a defeatist vagina, perhaps you should consider not behaving like one.

Iraq never declared war on us. Iraq had nothing to do with 9/11. And yes, there are now Al Qaeda in Iraq, AFTER we invaded. And if you think you can simply reverse the government in one region after it has been ruled by dictators all this time...your fooling yourself.

Fides, you are completely misdirected an ill-informed about the intelligence report. The problem is that the war has created more terrorists, not because they think democracy will “snowball” but because the war in Iraq paints the US in an imperialistic and negative light, which is a substantiation of what the radical Muslims have been saying. This war is making more terrorists.

THE EXTRIMESTS ARE USING THE WAR AS A RECRUITMENT TOOL.

Actually, it has seemed that TERRORISM has "snowballed"

"Remember that these people declared war on us on 9/11. "

What people? A whole race of people? So you advocate the occupation and forced conversion of a whole group of people based on a religous belief and political system that is different than yours?

Or did a well funded (thanks again Saudi) small group of fundamentist nutcakes do something? And for that, you are willing to kill or convert all of them who disagree with your pov?

Did you ever wonder why the Islamic world sees this as the crusades all over again? How'd that go?

As far as the name calling, well I guess the counter would be that it's too bad you have such a large set of balls, because it's pretty clear you can't provide enough blood flow to your brain and balls at the same time. :)

Cheers big fella.

Opie: What people? Islamofascists, that's who.

"Opie: What people? Islamofascists, that's who"

And you can indentify them by??? Is there a club they belong to like the Elks?

And how many are they, and where exactly are they? And again who writes the checks?

Why aren't we following the money and cutting that off? Do these people when the money is removed from the situation, have the ability to harm anybody outside of how far they can walk? Last time I check no airline or shipline offers a terrorist's ride free plan.

Look at pictures from the occupation of Afgan. troops knocking on a sheet of wood covering a hole in a hillside. How do these people generate money to bomb America when they don't have a floor, windows or walls? Maybe we're at war with the wrong aspect. Maybe we should have traced the money back and removed the income source. Unfortunately, alot of those dollars are coming from our government's "friends".

I think if you are republican, you are just ill-informed about the issues or just has a vested interest in seeing a republican in office (i.e. if your rich in want tax cuts). I have never talked to a republican that was fully informed about the issues, if you fully informed you would be independent or democrat.

Yeah, because "liberal=informed," right? You remind me of those half-retarded rappers who go on about the importance of being "socially conscious," when what they really mean is radical left-winger.

I know of many PhD's in Political Science who are die-hard supporters of the GOP. As for myself, I may be just a Classics undergrad, but I read three national newspapers every single day. I know what is going on; I know what the issues are. And I support the Republican Party and the Bush administration passionately.

If you consider that 80% (or more) for academia is liberal that almost proves my point that the more intellectual you are the more liberal you are. There is a direct correlation.
:)

Neither is uninformed...they just see the issues differently

aroundaboutkid: You are incorrectly assuming anyone with a Ph.D. is worth listening to.

"If you consider that 80% (or more) for academia is liberal that almost proves my point that the more intellectual you are the more liberal you are. There is a direct correlation."

No, it merely proves that most of academia is far removed from reality.

"but I read three national newspapers every single day."

And they would be? :)

Fides,

It's kinda hard to buy into your POV, when you wrap it around the slurs you flew with a few posts eariler. The slurs hardly make your points valid, resonable or correct.. when you have to finish them with a slam. With all that education, haven't you learned that yet?

"I think if you are republican, you are just ill-informed about the issues or just has a vested interest in seeing a republican in office (i.e. if your rich in want tax cuts). I have never talked to a republican that was fully informed about the issues, if you fully informed you would be independent or democrat."

I'm not a republican, but I hope you realize how ridiculous that statement was.

I think aroundaboutkid has a good point about smarter people (people with PhD's) are usually more liberal. And I can also see where aroundaboutkid is coming from about ill-informed republicans; I’m not saying all are but I haven’t yet come across one that knew what they were talking about, but is probably just me.

Well when you see a guy drinking Budweiser and watching Nascar with his hunting dogs he comes off as not very intelligent. And truth is, these people are most often Republican

My feeling is that the people that are Conservative or Liberal try to conform to the accepted perception of them by the main population. Thus, we think that all Republicans drink Bud, watch Nascar, and have below-average intelligence, while Democrats drink wine, have above-average intelligence, andn are more educated (less redneck). The perception of the groups is often just as important as the reality.
