What’s the deal with Conservatives?

^ wow, you must be joking

I believe the patriot act was drafted by Democrats(?)

And yes, the patriot act is FAR from conservative.

Okay, if that's true then they got it wrong, too. Neither Republicans or Democrats are really good.

I love how people just assume that things that limit freedoms are conservative/Republican. If anything, freedom-limiting laws and programs are almost always liberal/Democrat inventions.

It's time to wake the Hell up, kids. The Democrats want to do nothing but control you, socially (political correctness, culminating in "hate speech" laws and the like) and ecomomically (countless taxpayer-funded programs and monolithic bureaucracies infringing upon the free market, and your wallet). If you want more freedom for yourself and your country, vote Republican. They may not be perfect, but they're a helluva lot better than the closet-socialist scumbags on the other side.

Two issues have clouded this truth, sadly: abortion and homosexual marriage. These are the cards that liberals constantly play in an attempt to convince people that they stand for freedom (which they most certainly do NOT!). Regardless of how ridiculous the ploy is, it's actually working, based on my observation of liberals on my campus.

Socialism is one of the most flawed ideologies. It rewards apathy and punishes productivity. No one is free in a socialist society.

If you truly want freedom, vote libertarian. Federal spending has sky rocketed under Bush.

The only reason those issues are "clouding" it is because Republicans have become big government whores who want to replace the socialist big government of the Democrats with the theocratic big government of the Republicans. They, too, want to control society and personal freedoms: drug outlawing, banning abortion, banning sodomy, outlawing gay marriage, having public funds go to religion...

Let's not forget that not a Republican said a word when Susette Kelo's property rights were stolen by unelected thugs in robes to build a mall - this IS the worst SCOTUS case of our generation, and it WILL come back to haunt us.

Agreed Kelo vs. New London completely destroyed the practice of eminent domain. Taking land from one private owner and giving it to another person is THEFT.

"Federal spending has sky rocketed under Bush."

True. But desperate times call for desperate measures. We are at war. And it's much bigger than Iraq -- although a democratic Iraq is absolutely key to defeating the enemy (radical Islam).

those desparate times were brought on by Bush's rash decision to invade iraq.

Xe: There certainly weren't any desperate times because of... you know.... 9/11... or anything.

So we go to a seemingly random country of Iraq instead of going after the perpetrator of 9/11. Iraq was a waste of lives, resources, time and money, which only left us worse off.

Iraq happened to be a terrorist haven. By going after Iraq, we are going after the terrorists. Further, for radical Islam and its proponents, there is no greater death knell than a democratic Middle East... which is what we are starting, starting with Iraq.

A leaked intelligence report that was just published in the Times says the war in Iraq has created more Islamic radical bent on kill us. Beside Iraq less of a haven for terrorists than Afghanistan, Syria, Jordan, Iran, Saudi Arabia, Egypt, Pakistan...

The truth is that the war and overthrowing Saddam created a vacuum for more Muslim extremists; when Saddam and the bath party was in power there were terrorists coming after us from Iraq. Zarqawi was a nobody before we went over to Iraq.

Just admit it, it was a mistake.

The truth is that we went into Iraq for the oil and tried to pass it off by saying that it was because of terrorists, Saddam, and weapons of mass destruction.

Blame Patriot Act on Democrats when Bush + Republican-controlled Congress are in power.

...

I think Bush may have a higher IQ?

Actually, Iraq didn't really have any terrorists in it until the U.S. invaded it. Anyone who thinks that Saddam and Bin Laden worked together obviously don't consider the fact that Bin Laden is a bit of a power whore, he doesn't share it.

"Iraq happened to be a terrorist haven. By going after Iraq, we are going after the terrorists. Further, for radical Islam and its proponents, there is no greater death knell than a democratic Middle East... which is what we are starting, starting with Iraq."

It's sorta like which came first the chicken or the egg? How many terrorist's were there prior to our troops arriving? How many are there now? Sadam wasn't in the business as much as our Saudi friends were. Sadam was in a box created by senior. It was a good idea then and has proven to be a better idea now in terms of lives.

And at what point did "we" decide "we" needed to spread democracy via invasion rather than it's natural course? I remember a guy named adolf who wanted to spread his version of government awhile back.

Just cause it's ours, does it mean everybody else has to have it by force if necessary? Just like back then, alot of other countries resisted adolf's ventures as countries are resisting ours. Forcing change at the end of a barrel doesn't always work.

Before you rage in reaction, put yourself in the other guy's shoes. When someone sends an occupation army in to change your way of life (even if for the better) wouldn't you rail against it? wouldn't you? Our fathers did.

^^agree completely.

^ i second that

The war in Iraq is a blatant waste of tax payers money. The US needs to stop being the worlds watchdogs
