What should I do (Job Related)

Well, most jobs around here require you to be 16 but several mediocre jobs (which job isn't mediocre for a HS student? -__-) like Mickie D's and DQ will hire 15 year olds. I could work as a bagger at a grocery store now. I'm 15 and 8 months old. Should I go work at one of those places or wait until I'm 16 and work at a job I would actually enjoy like at Barnes and Noble or something like that.

I could get a job at Target now which I'm also considering. Circuit City is a possibility when I'm 16 and Staples may be a possibility as well. I need to get a job but I'm unsure of if I should just wait until I turn 16. I probably should, what do you think?

It might be easier to wait until you're 16 since federal child labor laws strictly regulate your working hours if you're under 16. There are still restrictions after you turn 16, but they give you a lot more flexibility with your hours. The laws are also further restricted from state to state, so you may want to check that out and see if those 4 months of working under such restricted conditions are worth it for you. Don't fret over doing menial work at a fast food restaurant if you really want the money. The fact that you have work experience will help when you go to apply for a better job.

BTW, I currently work at Circuit City. There are only 2 people under 18 (me - 17, other person - 16), but no one really notices. I was interested in the bookstores too (I applied to all of them - Borders, B & N, Books-A-Million), but I got a slap in the face with their strict 18 or older policy. It might be different where you are.

It's not easy to find work these days when you have older people looking for typical teenage jobs, so good luck!

If you can get a job now, do it. You will have job experience when applying to the jobs you do want. And, if you ended up not getting a job at one of the places you really want, you'll still have a paying job.

You have to be 18+ to work at the Barnes and Noble where I live. There are a ton of part time job listings on craigslist so you could try there.

The problem lies in how long it will take until your 16. If you just turned 15, go get a job, and then quit when you're 16 for another job. Working at a place for a year is very good for you. And you'll still be making money, if you care.

Jonathan1, what grade are you going into now?

Working is a great experience. While I don't have a job with a paycheck (just a regular babysitting gig, which is awesome if you can get one), most of my 15 and X months friends work at Chik-fil-a. It's closed on Sundays, which is nice, and they seem to be pretty good to even younger employees. If your job offerings are severely limited until you're 16, or if you'll get paid better at Barnes and Noble vs. Target, wait until your birthday. You could also get a job and quit. I think Target would be a fine job, personally--I know plenty of 16-18 year olds happily employed there.

Here you can work at B&N at 16, BAM at 18, and we don't have a Borders.

Earthquake, as I said in my opening post, I only have 4 months until I turn 16. My birthday is on Christmas Eve.

Glassesarechic, I'm looking into Chik-fil-a, mostly because I like the Sunday off, but then when I think about it, the weekend is the only time I can put in a substantial amount of hours so by not working Sundays that may hurt.

Right now at 15 my options are:
Target
Krogers (bagger)
Food Lion (bagger)
Food Country (bagger)
Chik-fil-a

At 16:
Circuit City
B&N
Staples

I understand I should have some experience, however, I don't want to get a job and then quit after 4 short months.

Glassesarechic, I have a question if I may. You may not know the answer to this, but do your friends that work at chik-fil-a still rack up a decent amount of hours despite being closed on Sundays?

Join the CIA. (you had this coming)

LOL

but yeah, it's not a bad idea to join a couple of the above.

I'm also 15, and I might get a job at BestBuy/McD's...idk yet.

I think I'm going to just try for Target right now.

If so, try to work at the video game section - that's what I did for a month.

(I got kicked out for playing too much games and not actually doing my job, but it was pretty hilarious)
