i got my admissions letter in the mail today, from UCSD’s muir college. does anyone know what this means? i am really confused, because I put my major down as Bio, and then they tell me about a premajor??

All entering freshmen are admitted as premajors in the following disciplins: bioengineerin: premedical, engineering physics…blah blah blah. If you selected bioengineering, computer engineering…blah blah blah, as a choice of major, additional screening for admission to those majors is being conducted by the academic deparment, ad you will be offically notified in writing after one week of receipt of this letter.

There are two screenings to get into any engineering programs at UCSD. You are first admitted to UCSD -- the hard part is done; you are in. They then determined if you could be admitted to your first choice (major), second choice or put you in undecided engineering category based on your GPA/scores/etc./openings in each engineering major from all admitted engineering applicants. You get notified by the Jacobs School of Engineering about a week after you are admitted to UCSD if you got into your chosen engineering major. A little confusing -- it is just a 2-step process.

that's because everyone else realizes that you'll be poor like everyone in Soviet Russia if you major in something so useless as Russian and Soviet Studies
