What were your GPA, SAT, EC when you got admitted to Cal Poly SLO?

usually schools that have engineering as one of the majors they strive on. I dont know if your school has it but it only seems a select have it. I also wish the csu's had their applicants do an update as well. I didn't apply to pomona since slo was pretty much the only csu i wanted to go too, the rest are just uc's most likely getting into irvine or davis.

It seems mechanical, electrical and aerospace are the majors that have the higher GPA's. Why do you think this is? Hopefully you'll be able to get into slo.

i'll probably get on the waitlist as well. I'm just going crazy with not receiving an email yet haha. Did you receive an email mediocre? or just checked your mycalpoly?

Mycalpoly.

You would choose UCI over Cal Poly Pomona? I used to be a civil engineering major and did some research like a year ago because I wanted to choose between UCI and CPP. It basically came down to what you want to do: if you want a job go to CPP, if you want to go to grad school go to UCI. The UC's are more research/theory focused, and their job placement programs kind of suck. Even though they are less prestigious overall, schools like the cal poly's will prepare you for getting a job better, that is why I want to go here to slo. I think if I got into one of the top UC's though, I would probably go.

As for decisions, I think the average gpa for the engineering school was like 3.3-something last year for accepted students. I bet you'll get on the wait list, your pretty close to that. Let us know if they update your status.

yeah defiently. I thought uc's were more prestige on going to school for engineering. I thought about going to apply to cal poly pomona but i dont know. Can't do anything about it as well. But honestly you have to think that there's kid that get in that have lower than a 3.0 to get that average around a 3.3 ya know?

Do you think its more competitive though to get in as a aerospace, ee, or mechanical than civil?

It's hard to say, but its possible those majors would drive the gpa up overall. I don't know though, really. The stats I've looked at just list the engineering school as a whole.

yeah same with what i've seen. Well hopefully today is the day i find out, everyone seems to think today is a big day for cal states sending out notifications. We can only hope. And even though your on the waitlist, still congratulations for at least being semi-accepted. At least you didn't get accepted. Do you plan on going to slo still and wait or just going to go to the next best thing for you?

If I get into UCLA or UCB, those would probably be my first choice. I don't expect to get into those though, but hey you never know.

yeah we'll see hopefully i'll get something tonight regarding the decision on cal poly.

Fall 2009
gpa: 3.8ish
cr: 690 m: 720
major: physics =]

YESSS! this is nice, although i was deferred from ED...but thats over now.

hey congratulations kevdo......did you just find out tonight?

Nice job kevdo. I remember how hard it was to get differed.

yeah, i found out through the portal when i got home.

yeah, best of luck to all of us deferees..there is hope!!

Good news guys. It's pretty hard to believe... but I got in! Here are my stats, and it should give you some hope.

GPA: 3.24W 3.02?UW
SAT: 1920, CR: 660
M: 650
W: 610
EC: I put in the second option for EC hours, I think it was 6-12? Not really sure, but I know for sure it wasn't the 1-something one.

BTW I got in for school of engineering :D
im so happy ^_^

GL TO EVERYONE

congrats! From what I see, even if you don't have a stellar gpa (3.5 and below), as long as you have decent EC stuff and a high SAT/ACT, than you have a good chance of getting into Cal Poly.

congratulations ice mat........Hopefully this will give me hope that i'll get in. Even though it's different since your a freshman correct? Hopefully for a transfer I'll have a chance. But congrats to you on getting in the engineering program. Hopefully i'll have the chance. Whoever gets accepted to the school of engineering we should all meet up haha being future students and all.

congrat icemat, and i hope u will get in there too j.irvin ...

thanks locyz9x.......from what the lady told me yesterday transfer students should know either way within the next 7-10 days so now 6-9 haha, this has gotten bad, but yeah it's funny because I didn't really know that I truly wanted to go to slo until my friend got accepted, don't know if thats a jealous thing, but honestly it just made me finally think. It'd be nice to go with my friends but also slo is an amazing place and a great fit for me since it has that laid back/college town atmosphere. Did you get into the engineering program locy?

I got in computer engineering. I have a really low stats 1000 m+R ,4.0 weighted gpa + a ap class lol .It was a surprised when i got the acceptance letter . I didn't even think i could get in there with those numbers. I never visit the school before, only heard the weather is nice and good location.

you could get into anywhere though with a 4.0 weighted. Honestly though i don't truly know what weighted GPA is since im a transfer student. Let's put it this way community college really turned my perspective on school.

Thanks everyone... yeah it made me nervous when I was browsing this thread and seeing so many 3.5+ GPA people getting accepted, it made me think that I had no chance of getting in. Since I'm a freshman, I'll be looking forward to attending SLO in the fall. Thank you and good luck everyone!
