What would Harvard think?

Asians are definitely considered URMs. However, in the admissions process, Asians aren't exactly on the same level as other URMs. Since so many Asians in America come from well-off backgrounds and are generally excellent candidates for Ivy schools, they don't have the same "appeal" if you will that a black student with similar stats would have.

Just as admissions officers equate being black with having fewer opportunities, they equate being Asian with having more opportunities. Many Asians are well off, so therefore, the perception is that ALL Asians are well off. Many black students have had fewer opportunities, so therefore, the perception is that ALL black students have had fewer opportunities.

A black student might drive a Benz, and that Asian student might be living with rodents, but said black student will almost certainly have more "appeal" to an admissions officer than would said Asian student. The section on minority tags in A is for Admission discusses this phenomenon in depth.
