Just wondering if theyd throw my app out the window or give it serious consideration...my friend was the first to be admitted to harvard EA this year in school history...does that affect my chances greatly? im the only other student applying

So is there something like modified Chorus or JV Chorus?

sorry for not answering your question. I have no idea. You seem to be involved in your local community (but not national... I don't know if they only like nat'l stuff), but your scores are a little low. Maybe your sports or the more intangible stuff like recs and essay will help. Who knows? We're all waiting for April.

well, you are a URM, so your SAT score is actually decent. And you do have some solid EC involvement with your varsity sports leadership and other stuff....I would say that you have a pretty good chance at H; that is, I wouldn't be surprised if you got in, but nor would I be surprised if you didn't. Good luck all the same.

...us asians are considered the overpopulating smartasses of society that needs to be cut down...we are an ORM at unis, and all they want to do is cut us down, even though many of us are well qualfied.

To say universities want to cut down on the number of asians is preposterous. That would mean they want to cut down on the number of whites, as well....

Asians are indeed considered URMs at Harvard; there is an Asian-American division of the Undergraduate Minority Recruitment Program. I can give you more info if you'd like to contact one of the two Asian-American student recruiters.

I hope you're kidding, tennisdude. If so, bad joke.

bruno:
Asians are definitely considered URMs. However, in the admissions process, Asians aren't exactly on the same level as other URMs. Since so many Asians in America come from well-off backgrounds and are generally excellent candidates for Ivy schools, they don't have the same "appeal" if you will that a black student with similar stats would have.

So is there something like modified Chorus or JV Chorus

yes there is a chorale, JV chorus and then varsity chorus

as my for my essays they were pretty strong according to those who helped me edit them but whos to say they were or were not but i spent ALOT of time on them

as for my scores i was pretty dissapointed with them because i was scoring in the mid 14's on practice on test and im taking the act this weekend and should get around 32-34 if i do well

i think he has a good chance. in a different post, Mine is Different mentioned that he was playing something like national level basketball?? or something like that. so they would look at that as high level of achievement... see if the ivy coaches will take a walk-on.

also, i'm still confused about how you can have varsity chorus.

and i saw the site for harvard's URM recruiting, and they do have some stuff on asians there. they sent me a packet with that stuff as well... i guffawed.

i don't think that asians have the same levying power as do other minorities (although they do tend to be overrepresented on campuses). it's not something that'll necessarily work against them or keep them out, though. and it is true that some asians are well off. but even for the not-so well-off ones, i guess it's just assumed that they come from a hardworking culture where education is valued. so.
