“Personally I don’t think he’s ready to move 14 hours from home. DH thinks he needs to expand his horizons”
- So, why is he going that far? I am just confused. How is that his father decides and not the kid? My D. was not ready to go far, she did not apply further than 3.5 hrs of driving. As a college graduate, she still was not ready to be far from home and she did not apply to Med. Schools further than 5.5 hrs of driving. We would not push her to be far, no way!
They are going thru very hard adjusting to new surroundings, being on their own and adjusting to a huge gap between HS academic requirements and college ones. There is not reason to add another level of anxiety when there are plenty of the real unavoidable ones.
You might think that my D. is such a “mommy” kid. While she is, she is also a real world traveler. She has been to so many places abroad! She has traveled tons for various interviews also and she had no problem adjusting to anything. You do not need to send them thru the hoops at young age to “expand thier horizon”, natural sequence of life will do it for them at the proper time.
However, he will do just fine anyway. I would not worry too much, he is a boy after all!
