What's the best housing option for freshman?

oohh okay .. that makes sense . it wouldnt be fair or make sense to have one person not have a desk .. haha .

hmm . i guess i will sleep on this .. probably begin my housing app tomoro . OH would it be possible for a friend of mine and i to get stuck in the same plaza or is that really unlikely ? just wondering .

as roommates or just end up in the same floor/building?

if you want to be roommates, both of you should request each other as a roommate on your application, and they will try to accommodate your request (no guarantees). if you just want the same floor/building, then it would only be by chance...in other words not very likely.

thanx for all the responses guys! how would you recommend ranking the residential halls if i want a social environemnt?

most social to least social:

highrise res halls
highrise plazas (vista, terrace, summit)
de neve
sunset
suites (saxon/hitch)

EDIT: oh right, you cant pick buildings. in that case: residence hall, plaza, suites.

don't worry about "missing out" with a plaza. hell, i've had to live in a suite talk about missing out... but you find ways to correct the situation. everyone here does.

Choose the plazas, so you can start with a strong GPA.

I dont know about that statement Flopsy...My roomates and I live in sunset and both of them are in the 2.7-3.0 range. but generally speaking you are right lol

does UCLA provide a single room for a freshman? If no, are we supposed to rent a private housing to get a single room?

does UCLA provide a single room for a freshman? If no, are we supposed to rent a private housing to get a single room?

you can put hedrick summit as your first choice which has singles.

again, 1st years CANNOT pick buildings....

Rokko, there is a very, very, very, slim chance that you'll be placed in a single. so, if that's really what you want, you'd have to look off-campus.

Yeah I agree. It's not like you'll be in your dorm room 24/7. IMO, it's a better investment to live in a much nicer living arrangement. The convenience is great too. I'd have to walk an extra 10 minutes to get to the suites (Hitch) or Hedrick Hall (residence hall).

oops i forgot first years cant pick my bad

oh yeah, and whats with this 'theme' housing option?

Theme housing doesn't really exist anymore, as far as I know.

actually it does... and they're all gonna be in evergreen next year (when i looked at room type, most evergreen rooms had some sort of theme to them).
btw evergreen = building in de neve plaza.
choose if you want a plaza and are interested in that particular theme.

So...if we want themed housing, are we pretty much guaranteed to get it? Or guaranteed to get in De Neve Plaza? =D

So I was wondering .. is housing first come , first serve ?? should i be sending in my housing application as soon as possible ??

This is more of a technical question, but I just filled out and sent my app, and I can't seem to find a place to pay the $30 deposit? Help anybody?
