I am applying as Pol S major for UCLA,but cannot decide what to have for an alternative major. What's the best alternative major for Pol S??? I am having difficulties finding one???Thanks guys

That entirely depends on you personally.

haybaxt, are you planning on going straight to law school? Psychology or philosophy are good alternative majors for that.

haybaxt, the only way the secondary major will matter is if you're a TAP student. UCLA doesnt consider 2nd majors for regular transfer applicants. source: many UCLA advisors

i second kevin's comment. heard it from ucla at the tap conference.

Thanks for your advice guys. Why then UCLA asks for the second major??? Also, if I declare my second major like phylosophy, then I would need to take some addtional classes???

you need to prepare for your alt major just as you would for your 1st choice. there is no difference. it acts as a back up if you get denied from your first choice. if that happens, they'll look at your second choice. if you have not met the req.'s and/or are not competitive enough for that major, you will get denied from it, aswell.

personal example:
my first choice for UCLA is math/econ. it less competitive than econ but i won't have all math completed until probably end of summer before i transfer.

my alternative choice for UCLA is econ. i'll have all courses completed by end of this quarter. it's one of the most competitive majors and a little bit more of stretch for me (gpa-wise) than math/econ. however, if i get into econ, i can (and will) switch in math/econ upon admission.

what courses do you have completed luba

for the major? engl comp, macro econ, micro econ, math 1a, math 1b (in progress)
