When are Likely Letters sent out?

I mean, "but I'm NOT sure if that will work out".

you guys, I'm not lying! I was notified about BN finalist by e-mail (twice) and phone.

I'm from NC. 4.0 GPA, 2330 SAT, lots of leadership and good ECs.

wait...what is BN

Duke Financial Aid | Merit Scholarships | Benjamin N. Duke Memorial Scholarship

wannabe- if youre a good enough candidate, im sure duke will understand about the exam that you ABSOLUTELY HAVE TO take. make sure you make that clear to them, though. they cant take away the scholarship when such important thing occurs. but what if youre sick in india on the 5th? isnt there any way that you could make up the test later- because there's absolutely no way that every high schooler in india will be healthy enough to take the exam on the same day.

caffinefree826: I am not sure about India. In some other countries, if you are sick on the testing day(s), it’s your luck. You are going to miss the boat for the whole year, unfortunately. Not like in US, you can have so many SAT dates in one year, you have AMC-A and AMC-B and alternate AIME.

caffinefree826 and susan4 - Yes, unfortunately that's the way it is. You take that exam on the set date (from the sick bed / hospital bed if you are sick) or you don't graduate from H.S. As simple and stupid as that.

I have now heard from Duke, and fortunately they are still keeping me in the running for the scholarship. They will arrange a video / telephone interview, and that's the best I can hope for at this time.

@dna3- sorry, I believe you now. My counselor called today and they said they have notified finalists for Trinity and BN, but the rest will be notified next Friday. I just got an invitation today for Duke Up Close, so I'm assuming I'm not a finalist??

^^^ I called them myself and got the message that they were "still in the process of notifying" for BN Duke finalists.

Has any one received an Academic Likely letter, yet? From any school?

@erickjc - So you got a likely letter and now got your invitation for Duke Up Close? Also, they are still notifying AB scholars then?

Yes, the likely letter said that a majority of the top 350 will receive an invite in March to Duke Up Close. A small number will be instead invited to the finalist weekend (happening simultaneously). AB finalists are supposed to be notified next Friday, I guess by email.

Yeah i got the likely letter. Im just hoping i dont get the invitation to Up Close. Yeah a AB scholar from DUke confirmed the Friday thing in the other AB scholar thread in the Duke forums. He also mentioned that internationals get an email because of their unique travel situation.

Have all of this years likely letters from Duke been sent out?

i hope not...fo reals

I GOT ONE TODAY!!!!!!!!!!!!!
Or at least I think I did....it said we would like to conradulate you on your outstanding academic achievements, and would like you to come to the BSAI (Black student alliance invitational). Is this a likely letter? On a little pamphlet on the inside it talked said this basically means I'm in, except in rare cases when things come up.

Congrats!!! What state are you from?

Northern Virginia

i called the BN office and they said that they have notified everyone already. so that means no BN for me

I got one!!!!!!!!!!!!

Greetings from Duke University! In recognition of your strong academic and extracurricular accomplishments, the Office of Undergraduate Admissions and the Black Student Alliance are delighted to invite you to the Black Student Alliance Invitational (BSAI). This annual program for prospective Duke undergraduates will be held Thursday, March 27 to Sunday, March 30. We hope you will join us for a special weekend!

You might be wondering If you have been admitted to Duke. Inviting you to campus means that we think you're a very strong candidate for admission. Very occasionally, something happens or we receive new information between the time we send our invitation and the time we finalize admissions decisions, and we find that we can't admit someone we've invited. But that's very rare. Your chances of being admitted are excellent. Please understand that this invitation is meant for you. We ask that you do not forward this email to fellow Duke applicants. We are unable to invite every student who applied for admission.

During BSAI, you will join outstanding African American students from across the country in an exciting community-building event. You will sample life at Duke and learn more about our exceptional students, faculty and facilities. The weekend will include activities across the community and some events designed to introduce students to our specific African American community.
