Stroebsp37, I applied EA to Caltech and MIT and was lucky :p to be
accepted to both. For what I specifically want to do, I saw the
opportunities for me at Pratt on par with both EA schools and let my
RD application to Duke :D stand.

Simple economics constrained the rest of my application process based on
the limited funds saved for the application process:
I either *withdrew my app *or ended up * not applying * to a host of other schools
that were on my list including:
Brown, CMU, JHU, UCB and Williams.

Also, I ended up not applying to Yale (seems to hate my public HS reason
unknown). WUSTL was another school I really liked but ended up not applying
after I discovered that prior year applicants above a certain SAT+GPA
seemed to all get waitlisted; (>2100 <2300) && (>3.65 <3.97) UW SAT+GPA
was needed to get an admittance in RD based on my school admit stats.

I'm from Alabama and I got a likely letter on Tuesday. I got into Yale in December. You can see my stats in one of the Yale threads if you're curious.

I was deferred from MIT. There were some problems with my app though. I should have updated them about my siemens status and should have done the optional essay. After being deferred, i sent that stuff in along with another rec from my research mentor and other updates.

ceebee that is a post that is going to catch a lot of people's attention! where did you hear this from? is this only true for duke or for many other schools too? how many waves and usually about when?
I may call the admissions office to get more insight.

My guidance counselor called the admissions office today and I think she said that they said that they were sending out a wave of likely letters specifically for North Carolina applicants later this week.

ahh phonyreal thanks for that information! I'm in NC too and was disappointed that I didn't get one, especially since an admissions rep called my guidance counselor a couple months ago to tell her that I probably would.

From what I understand from what my guidance counselor told me, the likely letters that have gone out have gone out to students that they're considering for scholarships

@phonyreal98 - I do not think that is true. The letter we got says they still have to determine whether we will get a scholarship. It says that in early march when they send out invitations to visit campus, we will either get one to their finalist weekend or to their special likely letter event (Close up or something?).
