Does the portal notify you of admission before the letter comes in?
My daughter got her letter before the portal alerted her.
@Jman0713 I got a letter in the mail and then that night it was on my portal so it seems as if you get a letter first
@Jman0713 Our D was accepted on 11/6 via portal but did not get a letter in the mail, yet.
Awards are up.
@laughandlearn23 yea I just saw that too
Being OOS and getting a Presidential Scholarship really is going to help out a lot
Anyone know when the second batch of decisions come out?
My D got a letter today from UD. They said they are still reviewing and need additional time to shape the class of 2020. They said they will let her know by mid-February. That they have an overwhelming number of qualified applicants to her major (Business school). Needless to say, we are bummed. I graduated from UD, and my son is a student there. This is my D’s first choice – always has been. She has a great gpa (over a 4.0), has taken a rigorous curriculum throughout high school (all honors and AP work), and is involved in many EC’s. Several leadership roles and awards, but she does not perform well on standardized tests. Her ACT is a 26 and UD lists 27 as the average. Still hoping that with her other strengths, they will admit her. But today she is very sad and so am I :(.
@dmarie109 I guess it really matters what major you are applying for. My daughter was accepted a few weeks ago. She is a speech disorders major. Her stats are just below your daughter’s. My older daughter goes to UD. But, UD is my daughter’s 2nd choice…first is Penn State. Hopefully, they will give your daughter good news before then.

It is my understanding that over the last few years admission to the Business School has become increasingly competitive, especially for the Accounting, MIS, Finance, and Financial Planning majors. In fact for current UD students wishing to transfer into these restricted majors a 3.2 GPA is required. However with the stats you mentioned IMHO your D still has a decent chance of being accepted. Last year students in at least several other majors (I don’t recall the specific ones) received a similar letter and I believe most all of them ended up being accepted. So don’t give up hope. Good luck.
My D applied back in Aug/Sept, and she received the email that her app is under review. But we haven’t heard anything. Not a tough major…food science. 4.0 gpa
Food Science is also a restricted major but is not as competitive as most business majors. For internal transfer consideration you only need a minimal UD GPA requirement of 2.5 . Good luck to all applicants.
i am committed to play a sport there and got an under review email on the 27th. I have a large scholarship for the sport I am playing and was won during when you think I will hear.
Does it take longer to hear back for kids who applied to honors? Also will a 1950 SAT, SAT II scores of 760 BioM and 690 lit and a 3.5/3.6 GPA(weighted/4.0, ridiculous upward trend) plus three years of a part time job and other extracurriculars be enough for an instate student to get into honors? I know that there are requirements for getting into the university for instate kids, but it doesn’t say anything about honors.
I got the email about “your application is ready for review” about two weeks ago. Is that the same thing as “your application is under review”?
No one from my school(magnet that usually sends like half of the class to UD each year) has heard back yet.
@rumorsareflying I was accepted into Honors program a few weeks ago. Not sure if who they are accepting is based off of stats, but mine are higher than yours-this may be a factor. Or maybe its because Im OOS. The “ready for review” comment means under review.
Thank you! I know that the instate acceptance rate for all campuses hovers around 90%. Not sure if in state honors applicants are evaluated separately than oos. Also there have been some surprising rejections over the years for in state students. My brother was accepted to the AA program but not main campus and he ended up at UPenn.
Where on the portal will the decision be?
@dmarie109 my daughter is on edge too on whether she will be accepted though just applied about a week ago and a different major. Several family members went to udel and when I asked admissions if they consider that in their determination of acceptance, they did say “we look at everything”. So, if anything is lacking on her app, I hope this is considered.
If you look at the University of Delaware Common Data Set (just plug this into your browser if you want to find the site and look at all the data) selection factors are broken down into very important; important; considered; and not considered. Alumni Relation is in the considered category. So it may be a factor if an applicant is otherwise borderline for acceptance. A lot depends on the major an applicant applies to as some are much more competitive than others. The most competitive majors for acceptance are Chemical Engineering and Nursing. A number of others are also very competitive including Accounting, MIS, and Finance in the Business School. Biology is also very competitive. Also the credentials of the applicant pool is a significant factor and these have been steadily increasing over the last 5-10 years.
Good luck.
