i wish UW Seattle would inform me that why i got rejected. It would be really helpful. But when i contacted with UW Bothell, the advisor said me to take IELTS or TOFEL. As i am taking IELTS, i will have to have 7. If i do get 7 then i wont need any more english class.

But after talking with you guys now i am really confused that if i should go to UW Bothell…Please keep suggesting me and i will keep in touch. Thanks a lot guys !

Nooo…okay so i came in USA in September 2007. In my country i finished my High School with GPA 5.00 ( according to USA 4.00 ) and i scored in the top 10% of my country. Our High school there is upto 10th grade and i graduated on science. My Physics, Chemistery book were similar to 11th and 12th grade books. Then i came here and statrted from 11th grade in HS here thisnking as i finshed 10th there i should attend at 11th grade. i had to take mendatory classes to graduate. As my math grade was higher in the HS here, they offered me College algebra,College calc even though i never took pre-calc ever before. my Average in my all classes and NYS regents exams were above 85. i had 1 year of English in the HS here. After my GED from here i started in a CC and after the placement test they offered me 2 Higher level English classes. So far that’s all i took for English.
And it wasnt seattle; Bothell told me that i dont have 4 years of English. so i said that i will take the IELTS exam and i even registered for it. Also i am out of state student. i live in NY with my family.except the citizenship i have every legal papers. after 1 year i will get my citizenship.
Seattle status still didnt change its same as before when i sent my application. Seattle just sent me a rejection letter and it didnt even say why they rejected me. my CC grade is 3.4 right now.
I even wrote a pretty strong essay saying how i am struggling to support my family with dad and studying at the same time.
Should i send a email to UW Seattle’s admission office asking why they rejected me ?

I really cant decide that if i should go for EE in UW Bothell or if i should apply to Stony Brook University here and go for EE there. Please help !

Sheesh07 - A friend of mine from Taiwan used to live in NY before coming here to UW. I know he has some friends at Stony Brook… I could ask him for some input about EE there, if you want. I don’t know how UW Bothell’s EE program compares to SBU.

Update for Sheesh07 - My friend says, in your situation, to apply to Stony Brook. Its known for the CSE and EE programs, and EE is the toughest program there. He says you’ll get a lot more out of SBU than UWB.

THANKS A LOT for your advice ! today sent me a mail asking to confirm my seat at UWB…i guess i will take all of your advice and apply to Stony Brook…thanks again for your help !

if any more information you can find out the please let me knoww… i will still keep searching for as much info i can gather…thanks =)

No problem! I can’t give you much information about UWB’s EE program, but you should also ask some of the Stony Brook students about their take on the program!

I believe your main problem is not having a English proficiency test. The 4 year English can easily be replaced by CC courses, but if you don’t have a English proficiency test, it’s a automatically rejection. The proficiency test and english class are two different things(at least in UW seattle).

There is specific description for you to see whether you have to take the English test or not. In your case, I believe you do, unless you are from a country where Enlgish is the first language(UK, Australia…etc)

it’s okay! The information you gave is good enough. Please let me know if you can find out anything else. Thanks again !

do you think i should contact with UWS ? i already registered for upcoming IELTS. Today i sent an email to the UW admissions office. Let’s see what they reply.

I suggest you can tell them about your immigration situation and inform them that you have registered for IELTS. However, the chance for them to reconsider your application is really small since they’ve explained everything on the website…

i wrote uw admissions about2011 fall transfer student, and they answered me saying that they will start sending acceptance and rejection letters june-july. right now, they are sending summer transfer.

sheesh07, so you just took 3-year English in total (1 in HS and 2 in CC). Am I correct??? In this case, you should contact UW Seattle and see if you can make up the last on during summer.
Is the one-year English class you took in HS regular or ESL??

i already sent an email to UW admission asking if there is anyway to find out why i got rejected and i sent it on saturday night so i will have to wait till monday i guess. or is there any web link to directly contact UW seattle ?

@nana17—

when i called them they said the same thing that at least till mid of june it will take time to reply back the fall transfers. idk why i got rejected so fast. And UW Bothell contacted me through email about the proof of my English Proficiency and that’s when i registered for IELTS and they accepted me but UWS didnt even ask me or sent me any email about it.

yes you are correcttt. And no it wasnt just ESL. I did take ESL in High school in a advanced class and was done in 6 months and i also had HS english class too. So with ESL i took 2 english class in HS and 2 English class in college.
Should i contact to UW Seattle in their regular admissions email or they have different site for it ?
