So I got into U of I College of General Studies. Business was my first choice, but looks like I'll have to transfer after freshman year. My question is since I know transferring to Biz is really competitive, can I apply to another major in addition to applying to Biz too?

stupid question nonetheless bumpp

These are questions that your DGS advisor exists to answer for you. Asking here is not likely to elicit a response you can hang your hat on. Maybe Drusba might have some insight, but other than that, since it’s my understanding that DGS advice for a specific student is very specific to that individual and how they do after they get to U of I, no one, other than your advisor will be able to answer accurately.

Definitely ask advisor. General rule is that you can make only one transfer application per “registration period.” Each upcoming semester has two registration periods for existing students, one during the prior semester (April for fall) when most existing UIUC students register for their next semester, and one that starts a week before classes start for the semester and carries into the first week for the semester. For colleges other than business, you can apply to transfer into the next semester shortly before the beginning of each registration period meaning by about mid-March or mid-August. Beginning with freshman who entered in 2009, Business began a one transfer chance rule if you are a student at UIUC. The only opportunity you will have to transfer into business is after freshman year and you apply in May and are informed of decision in June after grades come out. If you are intending to do that, it is unlikely you can apply in March for a different transfer than business into fall of sophomore year (if you were accepted that would prohibit the business transfer request). However, you may be able to apply in August if rejected by business (there could be difficulty because of course requirements for transfers into other majors; if you have spent freshman year meeting the business school’s course requirements, you may not meet requirements for a number of other majors in other colleges. Note the other colleges do not have any single chance transfer rule and generally accept transfers after first or second year.

thanks, i understand a lot more now after speaking with DGS advising on aim
