When you have a GPA of 1.3, is it capable to transfer to another college with this GPA?

Hi guys, I’m struggling just a little bit right now. Because my GPA is 1.3, my Financial Aid status changed to WARNING. I really need some advice. Also, the email said that my Satisfactory Academic Progress will be evaluated again at the end of my next term of enrollment.

I’m not enrolled for the spring semester due to financial issues, so would that affect my Satisfactory Academic Progress, my Financial Aid status, and my capability of transferring to a university?

You need to speak with the financial aid office about what you need to do to meet SAP given that you are taking this semester off.

It will be difficult for you to be admitted anywhere other than an open-admission institution with your GPA. You need to think about the reasons for your GPA, and consider studying part-time at a community college where the classes are cheap until your GPA is transfer-ready.

You need to be in good standing to transfer into most universities. I would get your GPA up. If you lose financial aid and can’t appeal, you’ll have to pay in cash and get good grades before you can even think about transferring (other than to an open-admission university, as the previous poster indicated).

  1. Why do you have a 1.3 average? Partying? Illness? Relationship problems? Depression? Not prepared for college? Taking the wrong classes? Working too much? Taking too many classes? Not going to classes? not doing the work?

  2. What can you do to fix that?

  3. Talk to your adviser/Dean of Students about options. Don’t just not show up. Talk to them about taking a Leave of Absence or any other statuses that might be helpful.

  4. Is it time to think about Community College? Take some classes and show that you can do the work?

I don’t know what your situation is, but perhaps community college is something you can look into, either by going on a leave of absence from your current university (easy process) or by withdrawing. There’s no shame in doing so, and CC will give you the chance to get things sorted out before continuing on with university.

This happened to my cousin. He was a music major at CSUF and he just really struggled with some of his courses. I think it was music theory? He didn’t pass these courses and was disqualified from receiving financial aid because the bad grades continued for more than 1 semester. He took some time off to attend a community college, got decent grades, and was able to return to CSUF with his aid re-instated. As others have suggested, community college would be a great option to explore.
