Just out of curiosity, of the other schools you got in RD, which were you seriously considering?

Emory and Occidental

The other “finalists” on S’s list of acceptances were UC Berkeley, UCL at U of London, U of Edinburgh, U St. Andrews, U Washington. He is interested in research science.

D (who applied ED) has many friends in Theatre who chose NU over top Ivies, which universally have weaker Theatre schools than Northwestern, so you’ll find this varies a lot by major.

But of course they also chose NU over all the schools they didn’t bother applying to. ;)

Notre Dame and UChicago

UC Berkeley and UCLA

Berkeley, UCLA, Tufts

It’s interesting to see where else folks were admitted as there is such variety in where people apply. S didn’t apply to any of the schools mentioned here so far aside from Berkeley.

@nw2017 - So some folks at NU actually applied to UChicago. I’ve not met many NU kids who did, though I suspect that varies by major.

Here are a few that DIDN’T accept D1: Vassar, Claremont Mckenna, and Pitzer. (But she would have gone to NU anyhow: it was her first choice.)
