Where should I go

Im a freshman at Syracuse and am not vey happy here at all right now. I have a 3.6 gpa and made dean's list and was voted an emerging student leader. I had a 3.37 in high school but my junior and senior year i had a 3.6 and 3.7 after i had a family circumstance occur my first 2 years that put my time other than school. I was involved in leadership, captain of sports team and all that good stuff in high school. I was wondering what my options are. I am not 100% sure on my intent to transfer but i think i will apply to keep options open.
I am definitely applying to Providence COllege as I grew up there.
Finance and Information technology major by the way.

I was thinking for other schools.....
UMaryland
Villanova
Boston College(probly a stretch)
Fairfield
UNC

Want to know your thoughts as well as suggestions!
Thanks

Why are you wanting to transfer? What about the school makes you unhappy? Will those other schools really make you feel better?

Is money an issue? What were your SAT scores?

Money isnt that much of an issue. What makes me unhappy about the school is a bunch of things. I hate upstate NY, am very depressed by the surrounding area and would never return to live or work in this area. Im not happy with taking generic courses in which professors but obscure things on exams. I was not accepted by greek life. Ive had housing problems. I dont know about being far away from home. The party scene is greek exclusive and i was not accepted. Very unimpressed by the facilities they are all very old and i dont like that.

SAT scores were 1710, im not a good test taker.

Retake that SAT, and have fun Villanova, UMD, or Fairfield. BC and UNC are toss-ups, unless you’re in-state for the latter.

Might be good for you to be back near family.

BC is reach.

Not going to retake my SATs, think its a huge waste of time. Going to apply to Providence and Villanova, maybe BC if i stay another semester at Cuse. Feel like im gonna wind up at Providence. Pretty confident i will get in. My high school is also a PC friendly school.

Do i have a shot at any top 30s?

Zj, a couple close friends of mine go to PC now (as my high school was a PC friendly school as well) and I think you might find a few of the problems you list with Syracuse there as well, I’m sorry to say.

The PC party scene is very frat-driven, the social autmosphere is apparently very similar to my high school’s (small, gossipy, not very diverse, little higher-order discourse about politics etc.), social groups are often arranged exactly how they were in high school, and the PC administration is very Christian, so there are a lot of issues with priartals (or however it’s spelled) and such.

With that said, all of that info came from friends who love the school. So if it’s the right fit for you then go for it. I’m just saying don’t expect a dramatic change from Syracuse.

Well for one, PC does not have greek life and is much more of a bar school. And i am catholic so i like the christian aspect to it. I know ill love it there because i have a passion for it.
But i was wondering if i should “aim higher” with extremely good credentials at Syracuse(top 10% of class) and such
