Where to live?

I'm going to be a freshman next year at UCLA. I have to soon apply for housing, and I'm not sure how to rank the different residence halls (ie which ones are nicer or closer to most places....)?

Oh where to start? Lol. Well, first off, just to let you know (if you haven't already read this 50 times in other housing threads) most first years will be in triples. Second of all, first years don't actually get to pick which building they want to live in, just type. By type I mean plaza or res hall. Plazas have either private or shared baths with the ability to control the A/C and heating. Plaza's also tend to be a little less social when compared to the res halls. Res halls, have community restrooms and no A/C (though if you bring a fan with you for your room, you probably won't even notice since the weather here is usually mild.) But, as I mentioned before, they are more social. Typically speaking, part of the college first-year experience is living in a res hall. But, it really depends on what kind of environment you'd rather be living in when you fill out your housing app.

Just for reference, Sproul is the best and closest hall to campus. It'll be even better after renovations (in theory) next school year.

thank you 'ckings' and 'ucapplicant'

are the triple rooms really that bad?

so do incoming frosh most likely live in triples no matter if housed in res hall AND plazas? cus my freinds are picking plazas to escape the triples..but im not sure if they would end up in triples at the plazas anyway?

You're right. It doesn't matter if its a plaza or a res hall... it'll most likely be a triple.

after upperclassmen room sign ups, there were no male double rooms left AT ALL across all of on campus housing.

i'm not sure if they reserve any rooms for freshmen, but if they didnt then no freshmen guys will be in a double next year.

so C/O 2010's freshmen get to suffer... damn.

I'm sure they reserved rooms for the first years... I would think...

I guess our class got lucky.

Sicne this thread is about housing... how does housng work for the summer if you're doing research or participating in some programs on campus?

You can apply for on-campus/off-campus Summer Housing here...
